I would love to see a revival of Evita, and while I'm not familiar enough with Karen Olivo, I can't think of anyone right now who can play the role. Ideally, I'd love to see a production that took a risk and cast a younger, more unknown actress. [although Olivo could be considered more of an unknown]
ETA: I apparently can't type today.
If a Broadway revival were to happen soon, I would hope it would be with Elena Roger, who was stunning in the West End production.
That being said, if an American actress was to take the part on, my first choice would be Mandy Gonzalez.
haha do you mean a revival of Evita? lol oh god.. not more gypsy revivals! lol
ugh, yes, brain fart.
and I would actually rather not see the West End production on Broadway. I think it doesn't have to be Hal Prince's Evita or none at all, but I think the West End production was too literal and too...warm. the inclusion of You Must Love Me is probably a mistake, in my opinion.
I still wish Natalie Toro could be Eva on Broadway...!
But no revival will be planned for a while. The RUG has obviously seen it's not as popular as expected, seeing as the 20th Anniversary Tour starring Toro + Raul Esparza never made it, yet was intended; also the London Revival furthered back this process by closing after a year (just short 1 week as a matter of fact). I love EVITA, it's probably my favourite musical ever, but it's just not going to be on Broadway for a while.
I don't know if I'd consider Evita to be a fun show.
"eh, yeah, but compared to phantom... i mean, it has plenty of upbeat songs.. phatom has like one lol"
Evita by no means any more or less of a fun show than Phantom. Evita is quite deep and at times, depressing. Sure, it has a few upbeat numbers, but I wouldn't say it makes the show any more or less fun. Who cares how many upbeat numbers a show has? It's not the best indicator of how "fun" a show is.
I think Evita is probably ALW's most ambitious score, and in many ways his best. I also think that Tim Rice's lyrics make it lyrically the best show in the Lloyd Webber canon.

I saw Natalie Toro in the role, and I really liked her, but I do think she's too old for the part. Elena Roger has a good voice, but I'm honestly a little distracted by her accent. (By the way, was I the only one who wanted to shoot Bob Gunton in the OBC? "Diiice are rrrrrrrrolling...") That said, I would LOVE a revival, but I can't think of a really good Eva off the top of my head. If they cast, like, Sutton Foster or something, I would just stab myself in the eardrums.
I actually think Evita's lyrics are for the most part really pretty bad. BUT they work better with the music than most of ALW's shows, where the lyrics don't seem to fit too well with the music. (Hard to explain what I mean...)

Elena Roger was a fantastic Eva. I did not find the accent distracting. I very much liked the London revival-especially in comparison to the 20th Anniversary tour which I found to be lackluster in every aspect, save Raul. It felt like exactly what it was, a recycled production of the Hal Prince staging with a new pronunciation for "Argentina," and only that word. I was completely enthralled by the London revival-- especially the orchestrations and the choreography, though the tango was overused.
