I can't even imagine how you get that many Playbills in the first place....and I can't imagine entering all those into a spreadsheet!
Good for you, that's impressive organization.

Posted: 7/10/10 at 4:17amContact my friend Paul Ydstie at Broadway!!! on ebay. He is the premiere seller of theater programs. Make sure to look at his store first. Programs are going up in price, like old comic books.

^ I actually am not a huge fan of that seller. He sells some things at really good prices...but some of them are just *way* over priced.
I got a very good condition brochure of Merman in "Hello, Dolly!" for $8.00...and I think they're selling it for over $100 b/c it's "rare"

Posted: 7/10/10 at 4:28pmI would like a spreadsheet too please. I would see if anyone wants to buy them here first and then list onn ebay. I think it will cost a lot in fees to put that much on ebay...just an idea.

Posted: 7/10/10 at 7:18pmI am very impressed with your huge collection of Playbills and would love to see your spreadsheet. How do you store this large collection of Playbills?

Posted: 7/10/10 at 7:46pmhusk_charmer, Paul Ystdie charges a great deal because he has stuff that nobody else has. Period. I collect "On Your Toes" memorabilia and he had pre-Broadway tryout material from 1936. Try finding that online anywhere else. He charges a great deal and delivers a lot. I have no problem with that. If you don't like that, go elsewhere. That's the American way.

He charges a great deal and while I really have no problem with it, some of it I find a bit over priced. I've seen people selling the same things he has, for a lot less money.
Granted, I also come from the school of "If it's over $40, it had better be something I *really* want."

I think Paul is taking collecting of Broadway memorabilia very seriously and charging prices comparable to film memorabilia. Let's face it, we'd all love to find that souvenir program we always wanted for five bucks, but we know that an 11X15 studio print of a film star would cost thousands. That's life.
I have seen Paul sell entire sets of the sheet music for "Away We Go" and souvenir programs for the show. There may be half-a-dozen copies left in the world. I suppose they were mostly trashed when the show changed its name to "Oklahoma." How rare is that? Rare enough to charge for.

Those, yes, that's worth charging for. But some of the more common things he charges more than I feel he should. That was my point.

I believe in many ways, we have been getting off very lightly in this field of interest. The price of Broadway memrobilia is peanuts compared to that of motion picture collectibles.
I can still buy stuff online for less than 20 bucks. Try buying ANYTHING film-related from Heritage Galleries or Profiles in History for that price. There is a finite amount of Broadway treasures out there - far fewer copies of individual items from the 30s and 40s and even the 50s than Hollywood collectibles. The prices are going to go up as people discover this as a growth market. Sure, it sucks, but that's life.
On the other hand, my collection of Fred Astaire opening night programs (I have every one except "The Bunch and Judy") has gone from the ten-or-twenty dollars I paid for each to many hundreds
each when I last had the collection appraised.

Good on you for collecting so many, I was hoping instead of emailing out a spreadsheet, you were going to list them individually on here..........only kidding.
Did you sell them in one big lot? Hope you got a good price for them.
