i was watching the movie the other night and it reminded me that there was a musical. did anyone see it and if so, was it any good? was it like the movie? thanks!

I saw it, and had a lot of fun. But I was kind of young, and don't remember many details. It's funny to look in my playbill, though, at the cast list and see who was in it. Aside from Jeremy Kushnier, I think I saw Hunter Foster in the ensemble, for example. There were more people like that, but I can't remember off the top of my head.

Anyway, in retrospect, I saw the movie for the first time about a year ago, and hated it. I saw a regional production that was essentially the same as the Broadway one had been. It wasn't abysmal, but I found myself wondering what I had liked so much about it, aside from the music being kind of fun. I read stuff about it, and people really seemed not to like it at all. *shrug*

After doing the musical I hate the movie.

I've seen this shows many times regionally and it is a fun show. Nothing that is spectacular, but it is fun.

Dee Hoty was in the show! And Jennifer Laura Thompson! They're pretty famous, at least I'd say! Jennifer Laura Thompson's got a Tony nod, and Dee Hoty's done plenty!

I like Chris Jarvis. He played Ren in the UK tour. hottie. also the UK tour replaced "Let's Make Believe We're in Love" with "Still Rockin'" which was an awesome choice.

When I saw the show, the musical arrangements were BRILLIANT, and the songs and the performers were so energetic. The script had mountains of flaws and false moments, but I was having so much fun that I didn't care.

If someone could give the book a makeover, the musical would make a great movie. I've posted my cast list for THAT many times.

I just loved the show in that guilty pleasure kind of way. I've never seen the movie all the way through. I've since tried to watch it, but the fact that they don't actually sing the songs drives me nuts.

Ok, Jennifer Laura Thompson didn't get a Tony nod for Footloose, if that is what you are saying BroadwayNick? Actually, Dee Hoty got a nod for Footloose, and Jen would go on to get one for Urinetown. I was a big fan of the movie as a child, and I remember seeing the musical and loving every waking moment of it. Jeremy was out the day I saw, but a little unknown guy named Hunter Foster u/s him, and he was wonderful.

I was already in the height of my JLT amazement by this point, so Footloose was always a favorite. After doing the show a summer or two ago, and being reintroduced to the book, I realize how campy and silly it was, but it will still hold a place in my heart.

I love Footloose.

Footloose was my first professional Broadway production. I saw the first stop of the first national tour in Cleveland, OH December of 1998. It was also my first cast recording. So, this show will always have a special place in my heart.

I also saw the tour with our very own Natalie Buster.

Footloose was a fun show. I saw it a few times on Broadway and there were a lot of talented performers in that cast, Jeremy, Tom Plotkin, Orfeh, Jennifer, Stacy Francis.

Bwaytheatre11, are you sure you saw a tour in Dec. '98? It's surprising that a tour would have started so soon after the Broadway opening.

oh my god.
i finally got a paying job, as chuck cranston in footloose, in new hampshire, after a year of not working. footloose was the first show i saw on broadway, i had seen annie on tour and other shows but that show truly made me want to do this for a living. that entire cast was so full of talent.
yes there are some flaws with the book and story. but it really is an uplifting show.
well i don't know if i should divulge but i know some actors from the obc and they said that there was some major usage of "up lifting" substanses during that run. if you saw the show then you would know why. the choreo was INFING SANE. there were also some kids who quite theatre after doing the first national because there bodys were shot.

anyway i think the show is fun and it is great to be doing the show that i first saw on broadway

I saw the show a few times on Broadway, absolutely loved it. And recently, I got Jeremy Kushnier and JLT to sign the playbills when I stopped by Rent and Wicked.

I recently played Williard in Footloose and I LOVE the show; yes, the script needs a lot of editing, but it's a great show for community theater and I LOVED it when I saw it on Broadway. I thought the choreography and cast were amazing.
I really think it's the energy that makes this show. The cast on Broadway was so great; all youthful and energetic and they just made you want to dance.

the show is GREAT. the community theatre that i'm involved in is doing it this summer...so i'm hoping to get a decent part in it!!
