How cunny was it when, he started to say 'classy sh!t', but then grinned and said "Nice crap!" Hehe.

Also, when they turned down the 'Hummers' part, he laughed too.

OMG I wish I had seen it.
Who presented their number? And the audience were laughing during the song?
I think they should have done a differnt song in my opinion. Though I am stil wanting to see the show (im getting the CD today because I can afford it now) I just have to say one little joke: IT looks like Michelle Federer is getting some great big stuff. lol
(Long silent pause)
Well I think its funny! No seriously good for him and congrats on the deserved Tony.
He was really nervous, you could hear him breathing the whole time. In Radio City, he didn't even say the line about "pouring out my ass" he only mouthed it, but he did say hummer and almost said s***, but changed it very quickly

itstheM- I LOVE YOUR PICTURE!!!
it just was a poor choice and they did not perform it well. i can't think of what number would have translated the best for that show, but maybe the more we dance. whatever. it's a big regret that they chose that song and it was was performed so poorly.

that wouldn't have drawn people. people would think it's disgusting, not funny. you have to see it in the context of the show.
It was also weird how Greg Jbara was just standing there. Did they need an excuse for him to be able to attend the awards?

I would love to know what he was laughing at. When I re-watched, it's when he looks at Lithgow and says "I really do deserve it". John loses it and Norbie cracks a huge smile and somehow didn't actually laugh...he then spent the whole time trying to keep it in.
The "classy sh*t" line was funny because he obviously did the "shh-" thing. after all....if he really did momentarily forget to change the line, he would have actually said "class.....nice crap"... he must have done it on purpose as a nod to the censoring or something.
And bleeping out the first "hummer" but not the second "hummer" was hysterical!! You can say "porn"(Kate Monster) and "naked twister" but not "hummer" if you mean it sexually? so funny. CBS kind of looked ridiculous there. (itstheM, he *did* say "ass", CBS bleeped it out)
On the up-side, since his performance wasn't fantastic at the Tonys, he will *really* wow the people who step foot in the Imperial! :)

Thenardier - you don't think alot of stuff would have been bleeped out of that or had to change? It came across as really sexually twisted or something when I saw it live...
I dunno, it didn't come off as great, but we maybe we're being a tad harsh on it because we've seen the show. I talked to a few of friends and family members who all said the number made them want to see the show. Only my sister said it didn't. We all know it could be better so we're being harsher, but for someone that never saw it, the majority still seemed to like it. Let's hope it sells more tickets. At the very least, Norbie winning the Tony, people may realize he was a bit off if they didn't like it b/c he had to win the Tony for some reason. Maybe I'm being biased or optimistic, but I love my DRS and Norbie.

oh don't get me wrong. he definitely deserved his award... but his performance was not up to par. that's not saying some people did like it, i'm sure there are many who did. but as some people here are more informed about his performance, we can comment as to the low caliber of last night. both times he sang.

by the way...after so much posting last night...I've been promoted to Featured Actor. Fitting on the night of the Tony's, no?

When Norbert name was anounced as the winner, did John stand up and applaud for him?
Broadway Legend Joined: 2/13/05
yes...and they had a huge bear hug. John said going in that he wanted Norbie to get it. He also said that he would not want it if his name was announced because it would have snubbed Norbie. No worries, John, all is well :)

yes, of course he did. john wanted norbert to win more than he wanted to win himself.

Hmm. No wonder I love this man!! When did he say that? Before the award on the red carpet?
Broadway Legend Joined: 6/10/04
he said it on the red carpet and he's made it clear this whole month that he wanted the award to go to norbert.

I was just listening to a tony post show on xm radio and i guess great big stuff was changing right up until the performance. They were making deals with CBS as to what words could be said (i.e. we'll give you an "ass" if you take out "hummer" or give you "****" if you don't say "hummer" and "ass", etc.) So according to Norbert he had done about five different versions of the song that day in run throughs. I cant say i blame him for being a little nervous, when your trying to remember what words you can and can't say. He also said that was the explanation for the shhh... classy crap. line.

But I guess it was at least funnier that he mantioned almost the word sh..!
