Posted: 5/4/08 at 1:32pmCertainly it's not widely known outside the theater world, but is it really that largely disliked? I don't think it is.

Posted: 5/4/08 at 1:35pmBecause I'm tired of hearing high school seniors think they're being profound by singing "Louder than Words" at EVERY TALENT SHOW. Talk about a song being overdone.

Maybe it's stuff like that from Rentheads that turns people off.

pli - I thought the exact same thing.
ttb is appreciated and loved by those who know it. However, it was produced posthumously and (IMO) never attracted quite as large a fan base as Rent, though I could be wrong. So I think it's safer to say that it's less recognized, but certainly not hated.

Posted: 5/4/08 at 3:09pmI love the recording, I mean come on, it's Raul. AS for the book, I don't know it, so I just enjoy the music.

Posted: 5/4/08 at 4:29pmthe book is pretty terrible and it is quite obvious that there are certain songs that were thrown into the show simply because those who worked on the project after Larson's passing didnt want the songs to be lost. (example: 'Sugar') I had thought about cutting it when I did the show but it does add a but of an energy boost (HA) between 'Real Life' and 'See Her Smile' and basically the rest of the show from there.. other than that though I think the music is pretty great and and any guy playing Jonathan gets to blow the room away

Great picture blaxx!
I really like tick...tick...BOOM! I have not seen a live production of it so I'm just going by the cast recording, but it's a favorite of mine. I much prefer it over RENT.

Posted: 5/4/08 at 4:52pmI saw the Baltimore production of "tick, tick, boom" and loved it, but I agree the book is underwhelming and slightly whiny. I just treated the show as a revue and blocked out the in-between sections. The only song I have problems with is "Come to Your Senses"--it's "commercial" in the wrong way and doesn't fit with the style of the rest of the show.

Posted: 5/4/08 at 5:53pmCome to Your Senses is my favorite song in the show, but I agree that the show doesn't have enough character development for it to be as powerful as it could be.
