Does anybody else really get grossed out by the way she sings that, but still sort of like it?

i get grossed out by a lot of that cd. however, if i'm in the right mood, it can be so gratifying.

Indeed, I was talking about the CD.
I have to agree, though I really enjoyed the show live, the cd makes me cringe. But occasionally it's just the right thing to play. The night I saw it Eden crossed from singing to screeching for a second in that infamous part. That has to take a toll after awhile.
"That has to take a toll after a while."
It sounds like Eden is totally in control of her belt and is in no way straining herself. And the fact that she can do it consistently 8 shows a week is a testement to that.
I think that for some people it can be a little much, and it's a little too much for me at times. But most of the time I love everything she does on that CD. Although it may sound skanky, girls belting really high is generally a theatrical and thrilling experience. When combined with trash bags and no plot and when it's overused, it gets a little annoying, but for the most part it's thrilling.
I am a fan of eden. I say her play elphaba and I thought her performance was very well done, esp. because she had only been on once or twice before.
Her voice is a DEFINITE aquired taste. Sometimes I am in the mood to be "wow-ed", and sometimes I don't want a headache. But overall I love when she sings that part...when she actually hits all the notes!

I feel like her voice is rich chocolate...I want a little bit of it, but not too much 'cause it makes me feel sick.
Glad to see you're enjoying your Christmas present AndyF
I like Eden.... still waiting to see what the big fuss is about BKLYN~ i'm seeing it at the end of the month...

She sings this on the screechy radio commercial - it took me about 100 listens to realize that "mooooooorrrrrrrrrrraaaahhhhh" was her way of singing "more right." Diction is not the child's strong suit.
I like it....but i get really cringey at brooklyn in the blood when she adn paradice go disonence on Iiiiiii Goooot I saw it live too, so....even then it was cringey.
To me, Eden doing anything is like a knife.

I loved her live but I want to claw my effing eyes out when I listen to the CD. It's just too much...or at least it is when you have head phones on.
I saw her in Wicked and in Bryant Park and I have the Brooklyn sampler. I think she's great.

I agree PJ --- the end of once upon a time...OY!
I think it is an amazing part...flawless and she is an AMAZING AMAZING actress to be able to do that. Some people ears are more sensative to others I suggest you turn it down a little, but to others like me it sends chills down my spine and a smile on my face.

Eden's belt is pretty amazing. It just depends on what you like... I love belters like Eden and Idina and big notes like that... The thing about Eden is that she can also sing soo so beautifully... "life is like a shooting star and here is where i'm falling..." and then get real loud "and destiny is callingggggggg" and whoever said something about her diction? i can hear every word she says, her voice is so crisp. maybe not on the belty high parts as much, but i can still hear the words
It doesn't take an actress to belt an F. It takes a singer. But I'm sure she's a fine actress too.
there are def. times when she gives me headaches. I mean when she's reachin for the A flat at the end of once upon a time, it's like the lottery...sometimes she wins, sometimes she doesn't...but when she's really on, she's really on, and when she's really off...ohhhh boy!

Yes, I still think she is one of the most talented people on broadway.
I've said it once, I've said it a million times. If she was "screaming" or "screeching" her voice would have given out LONG ago! There is no way she can belt those nights, eight times a week, and still have it, considering all the work she's done in Universal Studios, where all they do is sing, night and day, and then "Wicked" and now "Brookly," 8 times a week since Oct. It's a high belt, and if you're not into it, that's okay too, but don't label it as screaming, because it's not. Plus, the comment about her diction is amazing to me, because when I listen to her, she clearly ends every last word, and pronounces everything very well. I hear "more right," I don't know what anyone else is listening to

She's surely one of the most talented SINGERS on Broadway, but I wouldn't be so quick to congratulate her on her acting. Unfortunatly, there isn't much acting involved in BROOKLYN, so I can't judge that aspect until she moves on to another show. On the CD, the high note at the end is far more tolerable than live in the theatre - especially when you're sitting right in front of her when she's singing it in the theatre. My ears were ringing for a while after that - it really really was painful.

True, it's not like she's ever had to take off a week from the show...two or three times.
It really is quite a testament to her technique.
Shutting up everyone who's praising her technique aside, I actually get relieved when she has to take off, because I'd rather her get a wakeup call now and start taking some voice lessons than blow her voice.
Eden is such a belting goddess *spaces out in awe*
