Blaxx...
My concern was not about you and others being grammar/spelling nazis. As I mentioned, there are some on every board. My issue is that rather than just critizing, some of you move into insulting, and for very minor infractions. Here's what was written:
"would you take a 12 year old to see...
August Osage County
The Toxic Avenger
if not why ?"
(Now, I am assuming that the original post was not edited. Most of the message boards I am on don't allow editing posts, so I'm not used to that.)
There are a couple of punctuation and capitalization issues. But none of the words are misspelled, no abbreviations are used, and the considering the format, fairly well put together. I just don't see this in the same category as your example. For something like this, I don't see that the personal attacks on the poster were justified. ("Hey, your sentence/question isn't phrased right. You should say it this way..." is correcting/criticising. "If they write the way you do, then no." is more of a personal attack.)
Oh, and TheaterFan4? Funk and Wagnall's publishes a number of different reference books: encyclopedias, various types of dictionaries, a music collection, even a family medical reference guide. But you are right, I was thinking of Strunk and White's Elements of Style. I was just too lazy to look it up.
