avenue Q doesnt really interest me, and les mis is a double disk, so its like $30. i have been contemplating hairspray though. and question: if i like RENT, will i def like tick tick boom?

Get an older show. Again, I think On the 20th Century is a must have. Or perhaps, the original Sweet Charity, the original Gypsy, A Little Night Music, Company, Sweeney Todd, Evita..

Myths and Hyms or Floyd Collins if you love Piazza.

Dreamgirls benefit recording. Hair benefit recording. Ragtime (if you love ONce on This Island).

Parade. The Wild Party (LaChiusa, Broadway).

Dare to get some recordings outside of the 20 shows that everyone else owns.

And yes, I think if you love Rent you'll like Tick Tick Boom. Esparza is great in it.

Also, Taboo is a great disc too.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is fantastic I highly recommend it. Also check out the orignal Evita with Patti LuPone, sheer genius

Big River is alright. Lots of people love it. I think it's a tad overrated.

Songs for a New World is a great recording of a great score. Worth owning. You may have heard "Stars and Moon" before. Great song.

And I agree. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is a great recording. The second best score of last season.

DRS, Altar Boyz, Spelling Bee, tick,tick...BOOM!.

Hair Benefit Recording is absolutely amazing, so many powerhouses.

Some other personal favorites - Company, Assassins, Sweeney Todd.

Are you looking for a recent musical, older musical, comedy, drama, pop-ish, not, what are your specifics?

People aren't gonna like me saying this, but I found the tunes to be catchy...Spamalot.

im not a huge fan of the older musicals. i like more recent stuff. as you can see though, my tastes vary from the selection i have. anything similar to those i would prolly like.

You should give some of these "older musicals" a chance. Some of them may surprise you.

My Fair Lady is a museum piece. Look into some of Sondheim's work from the 70's, or even Lloyd Webber's early work. A lot of it is as thrilling (and often moreso) as contemporary stuff.

How about Bat Boy or A New Brain. Urinetown, tick, tick... BOOM!, and Songs for a New World are the next recordings I plan to buy.
