The reason I buy CDs is because I like to have like the little booklet and stuff. haha I know it sounds stupid, but it looks much nicer to add a OFFICIAL soundtrack to my shelf instead of the lame Memorex copy.
That's exactly how I feel. I like to add it to my collection. Plus, I have a problem with burned cds and not the real one, even if it is legal. I'm one of the people with an ipod that never uses the itunes music store. It's kind of funny.
WEll, I realize that itunes now has that PDF file but it's not the same. Sometimes when I listen to my CDs I like to read along with the lyrics even if I know all the words. Just because. It's not like i'm gonna get up and turn the computer on and scroll down the screen. I could just go to allmusicals.com if I wanted to read off a computer screen.
If I ever actually download something, it's probably for something that I can't buy. Something out-of-print or something...
Oh, and frontrowcentre2 thank you for correcting me. I'm usually the one who corrects people. Silly mistake.

I downloaded the "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" album from iTunes for ten bucks. Definitely cheaper than in the store, I must say. However, I then accidentally deleted my iTunes Music Folder, and there went my paid money. So I say CD, and just import into iTunes. There's nothing wrong with that.
I have an ipod but have never used itunes. I prefer a real cd because:
1. I like the feeling of opening it up, looking at the artwork, and having the lyrics available.
2. What are a bunch of songs on my computer worth? Nothing. Is an insurance company really going to cover itunes? No
i usually buy the cd and then just rip it to itunes. i like to have the cd because i use them in my car as i don't have a decent cable for my ipod.
Well that's why you burn what you buy onto a CD.
It is legal you know. Just put in all the songs from that cast recording onto a playlist, then insert a blank disc into your computer.
Then File, Burn Playlist to Disc....
....and there you go.

Hah, yes, I know. But I feel like if I'm going to put it on a CD anyway, then I might as well support the arts and pay a few bucks more.
I buy the CDs for the books and lyrics and stuff. Then they go right onto my ipod.
Well that does make sense. POINT IS.
The only benefit I see of getting things off itunes is that it's cheaper. That's my opinion.

I always like the CD.
I don't feel complete without the having the actual soundtrack. Sometimes I will burn a CD, but I always end up buying the actual CD if I like it enough. Just a sort of obsession thing.
Both
However, I've been buying more and more albums on iTunes recently. I don't want to pay 20 bucks for a cd when I can get TWO albums for the same price. iTunes and my wallet are real good friends.
This sounds really dumb but I also like the idea that I don't have to search store to store to find what I want. With iTunes, I don't even have to leave my room to get new cds.
That said, I would rather have the hard copy. One day when I'm really rich I'll get the hard copies of everything I got from iTunes... just because.
I strictly use my iPod and download music like a pirate.
But-sometimes I think it's necessary to buy the CD because I like having the booklet and all that junk.

I still don't understand how buying an album off i-tunes is not considered "supporting the arts."
I like to buy the actual CD's too, although sometimes I'll download a few songs off i-tunes to see if I like it first.

I meant to say paying a few extra dollars more to buy a tangible CD supports the arts even further. My bad. :)
i dont think it does, it wastes plastic which wastes oil, etc
i don't know what the point breakdown is for who gets what amount of the profit but it's probably similar

Okay, fine. I buy CDs because I want the booklet. I'm done. Gosh. :P
I do what most people do, looks like- the ol' buy the CD and load it on to iTunes.
I've had the worst luck with iPods, however, so it's never been a question for me of completely dumping one format for the other. I'm on my second pod and it's crashed at LEAST twice since I got it. Maybe I'm just abnormally brutal on my 'pod, but I've done a lot worse to my old trusty CD walkman and it's still working fine.

I like having the liner notes too, but a physical cd just adds to the clutter of my apartment and means more crap to take care of and carry out when I move. The concept of something of value not taking up any space is a wondrous and magical thing.
Well, my iPod wa stolen a few weeks ago (dies). But, when I did have my iPod, I still bought CDs on disc. Or if I purchased them on iTunes, I'd burn them to a disc. I like being able to listen to them in the car (don't own the cord that allows you to plug the iPod into the car). Once I save up enough money to replace my iPod, I'll probably save up as well to buy that cord.
thanks for your input Jeremy Roberts. I'm always curious about the difference in sound quality from 128 kps to 160 to 192, etc. I can't really tell the difference, but from on I'll take your word for it.
sorry about your stolen ipod DRS!
what i usually do is ill buy a couple songs off itunes, and if i like them ill go out and buy the whole recording at the store. Like others have said, it doesnt feel real if i dont buy the actual CD. and i know it may be a little more expensive to do this, but im ok with it.
When it comes to Broadway cast reocrdings, I am a collector. I have to have the original packaging of every CD. I buy every new cast recording as soon as it comes out and am building up my colletion of past OBC recordings (i just passed 200 recently). Once I buy the CD, I load it on my iPod. I too, have owned an iPod for a while now, but have NEVER bought anything off of iTunes. Regardless of whether or not I like the OBCR, I will buy it and load it onto my iPod. I also LOVE the packaging. The pakcaging to Dessa Rose still wows me when I look at it. Just amazing and totally worth all that money I spent on it!

Me, too.
I just feel better HOLDING the piece of commemorative music. If I upload it onto my computer so be it. I don't care. I ju8st don;t like having the theoretical CD.
I like all the pictures, and especially the lyrics.
