An evening of commentary by Sondheim on how he wrote certain numbers with Barbara Cook singing? The Roundabout hopefully has something up its sleeves for this one. To me, it merely sounds like another Sondheim complilation (Side by Side, Putting it Together). As much as I admire his genius and song catelogue, he's not enticing me to the theatre for this text book of a show. I'm disappointed to say the least.
Agreed. Unless you throw in some Sondheim luminaries (including but not limited to LuPone, Lansbury, Esparza, Peters...all of whom seemingly booked this season), this production sounds a little dull. And not to knock the esteemed Ms. Cook, but I can't imagine she's enough of a draw to pack 'em in 8 shows a week (though I have enjoyed the few times I've seen her in concert).
I could be wrong...
I don't know much about the show, but from what Riedel has written about it, I don't think it has a chance to survive on Broadway. It just sounds like a revamped, 21st century, Barbara Cook concert (and yes, I know the show was devised long before she became attached).
Here's a link to the Riedel article.

If Roundabout is doing the show "surviving" is not relevant.
