But Xanadu had good songs to go back to the drawing board with. Grease 2 doesn't even have that.
Not to mention the fact that the film of Xanadu, while a colossal failure, still had a soundtrack with songs that hit the charts performed by popular artists in the music industry which helped to provide a more solid foundation for the show. Grease 2 simply doesn't have that. The best Grease 2 can really hope for is yet another "_______ The Musical" Off-Broadway schtick show with a minor cult following, which is being done to death.
Um, I would consider paying full price to see "Reproduction" reproduced (pun intended) on a Broadway stage.

Reproduction on stage is the best reason ever to put GREASE 2 into a live format.
Wow.
That said, I concur with the FERRIS BEULER idea.
Um I am serious, but I am only a fan not a producer, but come on, it could be fun?
And when SON of GREASE wins a Tony all you nay-sayers will have to shut yer mouths.
I still don't see the point in comparing it to Xanadu, when Xanadu didn't make its investment back.
Are you thinking that producers will say "Look, let's put on a show that will make us lose money like Xanadu!"
I don't think the OP is suggesting that Xanadu should be used as a reason for producers to bring Grease 2 to Broadway.
They are saying that Grease 2 is a film now popularized by its camp appeal which has expanded its audience enough to make a Broadway show with a tongue-in-cheek tone possible, which is why Xanadu was possible.
Regardless of if Xanadu made it's investment back, it was still a well done production using a campy unsuccessful film as its source material.
I am anxiously awaiting the musical version of, Don't Tell Mom, the Baby-Sitter's Dead.
"They are saying that Grease 2 is a film now popularized by its camp appeal which has expanded its audience enough to make a Broadway show with a tongue-in-cheek tone possible"
What they're saying is incorrect.
XANADU, when released, was taken as a campy b-roll spoof. Obviously that was not the intent... but that's how it was received.
When GREASE 2 was released, I promise you the majority of American society did NOT perceive it in the same way as XANADU. It was taken seriously... whether that be the fault of the marketing team, or the producers, or director? I have no idea
But GREASE 2 isn;t even that popular anyway. I don't see how you can compare the two???
