If "Xanadu" could go from cheezy 80s movie musical to fun Broadway hit, why can't other "guilty pleasures" come to New York.
I am thinking specifically of my all-time favorite movie musical sequel - GREASE 2! I'd love to see the ladder dance from "Cool Rider" or the "Girl for All Seasons" Talent Show.
Come on! Give us the T-Birds and Pink Ladies in the 60s.
But Xanadu had good songs to go back to the drawing board with. Grease 2 doesn't even have that. Are they gonna write a whole new score?

What about "Mac and Me" the musical?

Also, Xanadu wasn't a sequel. And Broadway has proven to be a graveyard for musical sequels
I love Mac and Me.
Craig, don't tell us, tell Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Also, Xanadu was a flop!
I posted months ago on here that David Ian had bought the stage rights to Grease 2 and was talking about putting it on stage, maybe he had been drinking lol
"Mac and Me" would be pretty genius. that movie rules! Also, Vanilla Ice's "Cool As Ice" could be pretty sweet.
The reason why Xanadu made it was because it was making fun on itself.
Or rather because the book was actually well written? Who would have guessed that's all there was to it...

How about TEEN WITCH or SHOCK TREATMENT?

I actually can't believe there's not Breakfast Club: The Musical yet.

Or "The Apple". Where else am I going to find a reggae-singing demonic figure trying to steal the souls of two young hippies from Moosejaw all in the name of BIM?

What I thought when I read this was, THAT'S exactly how I felt when ATOTC was coming to Broadway. Not because it was bad in any way at all, but because if Xanadu found audiences, why not this great musical production? The critics can...

YES YES YES to the Grease 2 idea!
I think it would work as a Xanadu-style tongue-in-cheek sort of affair. Seeing the biker heaven scene onstage would be the highlight of my life (not really but you know...).
Oh and the actor playing Michael would have to be tone-deaf.
A breakfast Club musical would be a dreadful idea, however a stage play would work very well (in fact our company produced a stage play version of it last October here in the UK)
I thnk Playing For Keeps would be a great musical LOL - anyone remember that mtv-style movie about kids who open up a hotel?

I remember "Playing for Keeps" and also remember it being pretty awful.
I agree with those who say "Xanadu" had great songs, a solid book and a self-mocking tone. Even if someone came up with a decent book and the right tone, "Grease 2" would still have to deal with a less-than-memorable score.

Maybe I'm lacking a certain objectivity having grown up with the music (or maybe I've just got terrible taste) but I genuinely think the songs are, by and large, pretty great.
Yes the songs in Grease 2 are great - "Cool Rider" & "Let's Do It For Our Country" are greatness; as is "REPRODUCTION"!!!!!!!!!!
And yes, I totally anticipated that if this made it onto the stage that it would need to be done in the self-referential, tongue-in-cheek style of Xanadu. There is NO WAY the audience or the actors could take "Biker Heaven" or the T-Bird's "Prowlin" with any bit of sincerity.
Just don't let Carol "Drag Queen" Channing play Principal McGee.
And maybe they should stick with the original title: SON of GREASE!
Possible casting:
Stephanie (Michelle Pfeiffer) - Michelle Federer
Michael (Maxwell Caulfield) - Christopher J. Hanke
Johnny (Adrian Zmed) - any of the Jersey Boys
Paulette (Lorna Luft) - Sara Gettlefinger
Sharon (Maureen Teefy) - Jennifer Laura Thompson
Goose (Chris McDonald) - Chris Fitzgerald
Louis (Peter Frechette) - Daniel Reichard
Delores "Woodchuck" - Jennifer Cody
Principal McGhee (Eve Arden) - Alice Ripley
Blanche (Doody Goodman) - Emily Skinner
Ms. Mason (Connie Stevens) - Charles Busch or Lypsinka
Mr. Stuart (Tab Hunter) - Chris Seiber
I'd love to see a musical made of Ferris Bueller's Day Off!
Um.
That's the most unrealistic cast I've ever seen.
And the only reason I say that is because you're actually SERIOUS about it... which is kinda scary.
GREASE 2 is terrible. Terrible music and terrible book. Unless Patti is in it, there's no way this ever happens.
