yes its out on dvd in the uk (a lot of shops banned it though )if you go on ebay you should find it on there
YOU WILL LOVE IT
"...would cost some $15 million..."
$15 million?! If the London production costed $15 million, I have no idea where all the money went. It looked cheap and they pretty much used the same set the whole show. The cast was large in size though. Are you sure it is $15 million?
Dirty Rotten Scoundrel, you can get it on Amazon.co.uk but you need a multisystem dvd player.
the london production diddnt cost anywhere near $15 million
though it def diddnt look cheap act 2 had some amazing sets
plus the theatre it played in cost less than a lot of the other big west end theatres thats why shows such as fame and grease have all been in there ,to keep costs down
HERE HERE!
I rarely use cliche words like "most" and "ever" but seriously, "Jerry Springer: The Opera" is one helluva show! Have you see the BBC Movie?
First of all, the harmonies are amazing. AMAZING! Who'd have thought that stupid f*&#in b*^@h could sound SO gorgeous! Plus, it's one of the only musicals that holds a mirror to society without it being smeared in metaphor.
Plus, it's so goddamn hilarious. Makes you so sickened and proud of America at the same time. You know, it was supposed to have its American Premiere in San Francisco in late 2003 but they backed out? SF would have LOVED IT!

The real Jerry loves the show. And why wouldn't he? He is the one who got rich off that TV show. He ALWAYS knew exactly what a buffoon he was and played it to a T.
The opera is hysterical. I had pains in the stomach for days after seeing it. It's such a brilliant idea, doing an opera about the basest show ever on TV (although Judge Judy would make a great musical too). It really should come to America. Perhaps one of the opera companies will mount a subsidized production.
Talk about a gateway product.
(And yes, I didn't mentions nuns in the entire post. I'm over them now.)

The thing with the cost maybe the large size of the cast (7 principals and upwards of 25 chorus, + swings etc), but the band is small (8 in london, 6 now on tour) and the sets are not very numerous and are quite simple. The quote of $15m is way off the mark.
I didn't like the show at all. Well, at the start it was kinda funny but then it was just boring n valgur (sp??). I find it incredibly silly.
But I have to say, the cast.... WOW! The show had one of the best sung cast ever!
so close, ruthiefan

On Playbill...they had a list of shows coming to Broadway from 2006-2008 and Jerry was in it.
Oh My Gosh! I was watching Ellen (the musical episode) and she refered to a Jerry Springer Musical.....I thought she was just joking!!!
West end artist one, I hope you weren't aiming at me!
I was just correcting the spelling of the word vulgar.
Personally, I enjoyed every minute of the Opera. I wish I had come up with that concept. Jerry Springer's show is totally operatic to begin with. It was a natural and congrats to all involved!
You don't always need a multi-region DVD player. Region 2 DVD's will almost always play on computers, and will cometimes play on very cheap DVD players.
a computer program you can easily find with a Google search called SlySoft AnyDVD will allow you to play any region's dvds seamlessly on your computer (although circumventing the dvd restrictions placed on the devices by the MPAA would be so wrong....)
If you just want to "testdrive" the program. you can do a P2P search to find a copy of AnyDVD complete with the appropriate cracked serial number (although downloading illegal copies from the net would be so wrong.....)
It is vulgar. But that's the point of it, I think. Unfortunately, it's just about the ONLY point. Hearing typical Springer-ish dialogue set to beautiful operatic music, is hysterical for the first five minutes, funny for the next five, tolerable for about ten more minutes after that and deadly dull for the remaining two hours plus. A fantastic joke for a Saturday Night Live skit stretched out WAY too far.
Fab production and cast, though. I didn't think it looked cheap at all.

For A Long Time There was talk About moving JSTO to the United States, but the reason it was scratched was because of Producer Disagreements, and overall cost. The show did extremely well in the UK, until they dragged it out way past its prime. I did get to see it twice...once with Michael Brandon, and A Second Time With David Soul, both who were very good.
I know someone from the Cast, and she said they had a great time doing it...although she was smart enough to know not to bother with the tour, because it is not doing very well...matter of fact, miserable.
There is a website www.jerryspringertheopera.com where they have a 5 mintue video of the show, and I highly recommend purchasing the DVD from Amazon.UK. It is fantastic. The show is blocked very British, and many famous British people saw the show including Andrew Lloyd Webber and Elaine Paige.
Too bad it wont make it to the Great White Way, but it would never work here. Too British.

good- we don't need this stupid show taking up a theater when a better more appropriate show can go there!!!
"it sucks to be me "

YET YOU WILL HAPPILY OPEN SHOWS ON BROADWAY SUCH AS LESTAT Hmmmmmm
im guessing you havent even seen this show
if you did you would know it was outstanding
It was rumoured to be coming to Broadway in 2006 (back in the day) and I haven't heard any plans or news, so I think it's definitely postponed if not canceled. I have the CD, it's dirty but what do you expect? I don't really think it's funny, but seeing it is probably different.

Such a closed minded attitude.
Jerry Springer does have points to make about our society AND it is very funny. I preferred it in its original run at the National Theatre though, didn't seem to work as well at the Cambridge.
Don't get me wrong, I think the idea is fab and their starting point is gd. The casts/set are just simply amazing!! Alison Jear's I just Wanna Dance was totally a show stopper! But Act One was like 'what the heck?'. I didnt find the Act 2 topic like Jesus being gay as offensive, I mean... who knows? :P But I find that it sometimes gets boring and I think there's an excess amount of swear words (yeah, there cud be I think!), there's bits where its totaly unnessa imo! Take the finale tap dance! I mean 'what the fxxk, what the what the fxxk..' is just .... Watching it on DVD is fine, but paying sth like £40 to watch this, I find it ... all I get out of it is that they swear all the time!
I duno, I am Chinese and studies in UK, maybe I am too use to more classical musicals! Anyway, the cast for the UK Tour cudnt be better, but apparently the set has been incredibly scaled down!
This show is so tedious. If you think people singing "chick with a dick" is the height of wittiness, then you should love it. I didn't think it was daring or exciting or worthy of any attention. The jokes to me seemed like the moronic crap that people I go to school with make up to amuse themselves all the time. People who thought it was daring should spend an hour with some 13 year olds...
