I have always wondered why they would have spent all that money recording the music to not eventually release it. I mean could they not throw it up on iTunes for digital download and maybe make some of the money back!

Sorry I love the music specifically Allison Fischer (I hope I am remembering/spelling her name correctly) singing "I want more"

"I'd rater be nine peoples favorite thing, than a hundred peoples ninth favorite thing"

Maybe it's also expensive to distribute it on iTunes. I wonder if it will ever be produced again. It's a shame they couldn't make that work at all. What a mess.

Could it be perhaps that Elton John does not want it released? The same way Leonard Bernstein felt about 1600 PENNSYLVANIA AVENUE, which was recorded after Bernstein had passed. Just a thought.

Yes, the rumor mill has it that Dame Elton wanted to put the whole sorry experience out of his and everyone's mind. It's not as if he needed the money or the exposure.

"Maybe it's also expensive to distribute it on iTunes"

While there is some cost associated with iTunes distribution, certainly not enough to be truly prohibitive to doing a digital-only release (as Paul Simon did with The Capeman). I'm going to agree with the rumors that Elton John is blocking the release and trying to forget it (which I have also heard many times from many different sources, not just here on BWW).

With iTunes, it's supposedly just a matter of Apple taking 10% of the sale price. (or at least that's how it started)

He obviously cannot accept an occasional failure. Simply to dismiss his own work because a group of people did not like it is like throwing away a baby because some people say it is less than wonderful looking.

I always love how even though this show was such a flop, every few months it comes back up in conversation.

It's such a shame that the CD was never released, the cast was especially proud of the work they put into it as well. As far as I was told, it was recorded but never mixed/polished etc. So they couldn't just post it up on iTunes, they'd have to actually put some money into the production of it before they could actually distribute it.

I was one of the very few fans of the show and have fond memories of it. Though the whole production of it was mishandled by the majority of the higher ups involved. Elton basically shot himself in the foot on this one.
