"Who really cares?"
I believe we refer to them as Rent heads. Rabid, obsessive fans of Rent who will refuse to consider or even admit to the fact that there is even a remote possibility of a show being anywhere near as wonderful as that glorious, precious Rent. Because Jonathon Larson was the only man who had enough talent to write something as wonderful as the utterly flawless Rent. Rent is the most powerful, perfect show ever to be on Broadway, and there will never be a better show in the thousands of years to come. Not to mention, Rent basically began musical theatre...and everything else great that comes after Rent was only a result of Rent. Nothing can replace Rent. It's just impossible. It's too damn perfect. Basically, Rent is the best thing ever, and that is the end of the story. No exceptions...I am a prophet who can tell that Brooklyn, nor any other show, could ever have the power to replace Rent.

The only thing that Rent and Brooklyn have in common is ingenuity and Karen Olivo.

despite what my avatar and username suggest, I DO like other shows. I am a fan of les miserables, phantom of the opera, jesus christ superstar, assassins, chicago, cabaret, thouroughly modern millie, 42nd street, tick tick boom, wicked, the lion king, aida, the producers, sweeny todd, little shop of horrors, and many more that i wont continue naming because hopefully you get the picture.
we're all entitled to our own opinions... I didnt mean by saying that i like rent that i auotomatically dont like brooklyn. i havent even seen it yet! all I was doing was answering the question asked.
and i dont think its the best thing since sliced bread... but it does come close.. (just kidding)

this is ridiculous.
#1 Brooklyn isn't even open.....
#2 why do we need to compare them, can we only like one?
Thank you for the compliment LadyGuenevere!
It is amazing to read all of these comparisons to these 2 shows especially by people who have not seen them both. I look on the boards for good conversations and it seems no matter which board I am on, 2 particular shows seem to rear their heads!
I have posted any number of times that I have seen Brooklyn here in Denver. (A few times). I am also friends with someone close to the production. I was telling her about this website and how a lot of people were already deeming Eden a goddess, etc. She was unaware that the site existed. I was not aware of this shilling thing until today. Just from what I hear from her, I would think that the show is not doing this. But I am pretty new here and it sounds as if a lot of shows do this. Someone posted the storyline which is dead on. (Except I would liken the character Paradise to Diana Ross moreso than Missy Elliott. And I think that's what they were going for). I was very impressed by the sound design of the show also. (I look for that in a show) So now that I have rambled on....I agree, if you have not seen both shows, see them both after Brooklyn has opened and then compare the two if you feel you have to. You can't compare them just having heard the songs on the Brooklyn site. They are out of context right now. In my opinion, the songs fit very well into the show. I think that once the show is seen, a lot of people will find the music enjoyable. But they are 2 very different (and very good, in my opinion) shows. Also, this whole Eden thing is getting to be like a "She Who Will Not Be Named!" thing. (I think we all know who I am referring to!) Did any of the Eden fans see Ramona Keller as 1/3 of the Radio in Caroline or Change? The girl can sing her butt off!
OK...I'm done!

It will be hard for Brooklyn to pass Rent in my book, especially based on the music I've heard from it. But, a lot of people seem to love it and have expectations for it, so I'm trying to get into it a little or atleast give it a fair chance.
first of all BKLYN hasn't EVEN OPENED YET.
why don't we just wait until BKLN opens.
and besides can't we like two musicals based on their own merits instead of having to tear down one or the other and resort to BKLYN is better than RENT or RENT is better than BKLYN tactics. that is so out of high school....
omg what am i saying...half of you are still in high school....figures. *shrugs and walks away*
