matinee stage door?

Just really bummed myself out when I realized the three shows I have coming up are all saturday/sunday matinees, and I probably wont get to meet some of my favorite actors. Ive never been to an early show...do they still come out to say hi before they get ready for the evening performance? In particular. ..anyone try this with the realistic joneses yet?

You do indeed have a lesser chance at sucessful stagedooring for matinees. This is time for the cast/crew to rest, relax, eat and focus for the next show.

Can't speak specifically for this show.

It is harder to obtain signatures after a matinee compared to an evening show... but it's not impossible. Which three shows are you seeing? I can't speak for the matinee of The Realistic Joneses but all four leads did sign after the evening show yesterday.

Saturday matinees are usually hit or miss (mostly miss), however, since most shows only play a matinee on Sunday, you'll have better odds there.

when i saw pippin for the 5th time in july it was a sat mat and rachel bay jones, matthew james thomas, andrew fitch, and bethany moore were the only ones that came out. Granted it was a really hot day in nyc!

If you're coming during the BC/EFA season, you'll be able to buy signed stuff. That doesn't solve the meeting your favorite actors bit, but the signatures often look a lot better.

As others have said: your chances are less, but in the end, it really depends on the day (and the show).

As anecdotal evidence, I went to the stage door of Rocky on a Wednesday matinee. I hadn't been planning it (I was with the family, and we had a dinner engagement), but circumstances just worked out. To my surprise, all of the principles showed. Actually, probably the most pleasant stage-door experience I've ever had.

Like Quizking said, it's pretty hit or miss, last spring I went to the Kinky Boots stage door after a mat and nearly everyone but Billy Porter signed. Good luck!

Additionally, when I saw MOTHERS & SONS last week, I wasn't expecting anyone, but to my surprise, both Bobby Steggart and Tyne Daly came out. (Tyne is such a sweetheart, I can't even...)

highflying-- aladdin on a sunday at 3, the realistic joneses on a saturday at 2, and of mice and men on a sunday at 3. Didnt realize it, but the Aladdin and OMAM shows are both sunday and are the only shows that day, so thats good. But not the Joneses, I'm hoping Michael Hall and Marissa are in a good mood that day haha. I am a huggge fan of Michael Hall, so that was my biggest concern

I'm going to assume you have the best chance at Aladdin - since it's a kiddy show the cast will most likely come out to sign.
I'm not sure if you are aware, but the Lyceum (where the Joneses is playing) is on 45th street while the stagedoor is on 46th street. You need to go around the block after the show to find the stagedoor. You should have no trouble though, the door will say Lyceum Theatre Stage Door and barricades will be set up. The whole cast was very kind, but I'm not sure if they come out after matinees.
From what I understand, Of Mice and Men is a madhouse. The cops have to standby to monitor the crowd.
Have a great time! I can't wait to hear what you think of these shows :)

I have only been at stage door a few times and was wondering generally how long it takes actor to sign for everyone on line. I know it can depend on the actors involved and the show but lets just say for this purpose a "hit" show that has been running for a few years.

A hit show running for a few years should be easier, since the OBC is probably long gone... and without a name star, you'll probably have less autograph hounds that didn't even see the show in line.

Phillytheatreguy - Went to a Bridges Sunday matinee, everyone came out. They also came out relatively quickly... I waited maybe 5-10 minutes for O'Hara and Pasquale.

Sunday doesn't really count as to whether they come out after matinees, since they only do a matinee. This is more of a Wednesday or Saturday question, typically. On Sunday, they will always come out, to go home.
