Memphis is such an amazing musical. I wasn't able to see it on broadway but I bought it on dvd and I fell in love with. great story, great cast, great songs, amazing choreography, and an amazing story. it is such a fun musical. a movie version was announced a few years ago and we still have not heard any word of when they start production of it. I am still patiently waiting.
Contrary to what some of the people on this board may think, the show is one of my favorites and I so hope that a film adaption is made!
The stage show was filmed. What do we need a movie for?

Indeed! We've all suffered enough.
What is it with all the hate for Memphis? There are a lot of shows that a lot of people don't like, but this is the only one that seems to draw out seething animosity every time it's mentioned on here. I thought it was an excellent production -- great acting, singing, costumes, set design, with some spectacular musical numbers and a touching story -- so I don't get it.
I can't speak to the animosity, but my point was that we already have a pretty great document of the show preserved on film. Any film adaptation will likely all be set in someone's head and missing half the score. As with most movie musicals that's not something I'd be interested in.
Catsnyrevival - Good point, don't see why they would bother with movie when there is a document of the show on film. For the most part, movie musicals pale in comparison to the Broadway show.

I don't understand animosity towards this show, it was pretty decent and I thought Montego Glover's performance was worth the price of admission.

Agreed. I am always amused at the groaning over the film versions of Into the Woods and Sweeney Todd. While the adaptations may be a bit disappointing, the original stage productions are preserved on tape, so there's no real reason to complain about favorite songs or scenes being cut, or the tone being "off."

That’s strange indeed. I was looking forward to it but that’ll wait a while.
Wonderful show. I love watching it a few times a year. I don't think a movie is necessary since the filmed show is so great.
