re: more phantom movie clips

Oh my god. Have you heard "Down once more/Track down this murderer" yet? It's gorgeous! A lot more intense and beautiful that the OLC. I thought "Masquerade" was better than the OLC too.

re: more phantom movie clips

I don't like any of the dialgoue being on the soundtrack. Wow. "Learn to be Lonely" just came on. Minnie Driver sounds REALLY GOOD!

The overture is not the same thing that's in that new trailer. I don't like it. Not enough reverb or I could be thinking of something else but it is lacking something. I knwo it needs more thumping beats under it.

I can just imagine being in the movie theater and all of a sudden it starts up. I think I might pee myself. re: more phantom movie clips

What do you think of Learn to be Lonely?

re: more phantom movie clips

I think Gerald sounds like Colm Wilkinson sometimes.

re: more phantom movie clips

Well, it's over and now time to make a full review instead of of each song like I was doing.

Gerard: At first didn't like him, but by the end I LOVE his interpretation of the Phantom.

Emmy: Later songs, she is more powerful with her voice than earlier ones. I am not a big fan of her Christine but once I see the movie, it may grow on me.

Patrick: Sounds good, but not a good as I wished he was. He does have his moments of greatness though.

Minnie: The dubbed voice is great and her actual voice in the last song, "Learn to be Lonely" is GORGEOUS!!!

The voices sound not as strong as they should have been. Sounds very Karaoke-ish, especially in the beginning. The Orchestrations are BRILLIANT!!! No other way to describe it. I am sooooo glad that ALW made the title song more Rock, like the original concept of it was. '

OVERALL: I am glad I bought it, I can't wait for the movie to come out (I will probably see it more times than I can count) but it won't replace my OLC.

I know what the problem with the Overture is. It sounds the first chords are only organ and nothing else. I think I think it needs other synths and bass under it.

re: more phantom movie clips

I think "Learn to be Lonely" is a great song. I hope it is nominated for BEST SONG.

re: more phantom movie clips

Thank you spider. I am also glad as everyone on this board can guess, that the title song is more rock sounding.

re: more phantom movie clips

So, bronx...what was your final thought on this?

re: more phantom movie clips

I am very happy. I really have to say that my opinon now can change when I see the movie. The orchestra is outstanding everywhere except the very beginning of the overture when it's only the organ and it sounds kind of canned like a karaoke track. The audio is also not perfect on this sample we have. I am very pleased though. With this type of music I actually don't mind that the vocals are weak sometimes. I can't describe why I just like the overall effect of it. Emmy could be more solid with some of these notes. I will organize these thought after I see the movie.

re: more phantom movie clips

Is it possible to copy this music to whatever your program is? It's playing on Windows Media Player which will copy something if it's coming from a cd but I don't know about it if it's coming from an internet download.

re: more phantom movie clips

I doubt it.

re: more phantom movie clips

I want to bump this thread because I dont know if you guys realize that almost the entire soundtrack to the movie is avalable online if you preorder the soundtrack. This calls for some serious thoughs from more than just me and spider about the final outcome of the phantom soundtrack.

re: more phantom movie clips

Come on poeple!! Do you realize that practically the entire phantom movie soundtrack is on the internet!!! Wake up!!!

re: more phantom movie clips

Bronx, Spidey, you filled up three pages! You guys are too cute! I had to go out (to a play of course!)--sorry I didn't get to keep discussing the CD as we listened to it. I actually didn't get to "Learn To be Lonely." Thankfully the audio is still there in the "locker" on Amazon.

I'm still disappointed in Gerard's singing. I agree that at times the raw quality is effective for the story, but at times (even with studio magic) he is downright off-key. His acting might be great. I still think that actors in MUSICALS should be able to SING. Call me old-fashioned! Even so, I am still most excited about the movie.
"Do you know ChrisLovesShows?" "Yes. Why, yes he does!"

re: more phantom movie clips

He sounds great when he's soft but when he's loud he sounds retarded and I mean literally mentally challenged. I hate to be mean like this but I don't know how else to describe it. Do you see what I mean?

re: more phantom movie clips

I think Emmy is a better alto than a soprano--strong on the low notes, a little thin of the high notes sometimes---but appropriately young and fresh sounding.

Patrick is OK---does his job. I could never get too excited about Raoul anyway.

Gerard---he sounds better than I thought he would. I think his singing is uneven, sometimes effective, sometimes not so effective. He growls well. He sings pretty well for a movie actor.

With all the pretty people to look at, the sets, the costumes, the powerful orchestral music coming at them from the theater speakers, I doubt that most movie patrons will be very discriminating about the individual voices.

re: more phantom movie clips

A few of her really low notes I thought were shaky but yes she is a great alto and I really feel like she made the choice or they told her not to sing the music so operatically. I think if she was busting those high notes with lots of vibrato, that could seem "opera-like" and be a turn off to the popular audience.

re: more phantom movie clips

I recently came into posession of an MP3 of the title song, so I can hardly judge, but based on clips and this being the only entire track I've heard (being a poor college kid, I can't afford the soundtrack just yet), I'm disappointed in Gerard's performance. He just doesn't have the Angel Of Music sound to me. I might be being harsh and overly critical but I think it is key to have a strong singer for the Phantom if no one else is. That's just my opinion, though. I'm still going to see the film, but I was somewhat hoping for better....
