Ooh very difficult to not order from Amazon and listen NOW but I’ve already ordered from Sony so I could get a poster!
From what I’ve heard so far...could be better, could be far worse. I’m content :)
Kelly its might be worth it. You can always cancel the amazon order maybe even up untill the day before it comes out.
Theres going to be a lot of talk about Geralds voice. I can really see people hating it.

On the title track I think Emmy sounds like Dale Kristian on the lower notes. Anyone agree or disagree. Also, I'm not a big fan of Gerard's voice but it could be worse. I'm guessing his acting will be much better. The addition to the overture was a little strange. The chord modulations could have been a little smoother. Of course I'm not sure what is going on in the movie so it might be warrented.
I just wish all of the singers would choose a pronunciation. Sometimes they, especially Gerard, sing Phantom and sometimes Phaaahhntom. And in MOTN sometimes it is laaaahhhhhight and sometimes it is not as round. I don't care which they do as long as everyone is done the same way. That is my only major criticism. The orchestra is phenominal. I would go see the movie for them alone.

I just realized that Gerard does not do the phantom laugh or yell Go after his "You will curse.." line. I wonder if that is in the movie or if it was cut on the soundtrack. That is a shame.
I don't like the "go" so it's good for me.
Thank you for noticing what I was talking about with the beginning organ chordes in the Overture. The modulation between each chord is not there. I wnat them to blend together. That's where it sounds canned like a karaoke track or a machine. I don't think we're used to the addition in the overture so it's funny sounding at first but I don't think there's anything wrong with the addition. I wonder if the credits are during the overture or before.
"I can tell there's going to be a LOT of contorversy about whethere Gerald is good or bad. "
Yes, over on the film's offical site message board the opinions are quite varied, with several people saying that he improves upon multiple listenings.
Personally, I thought he sounded fairly excellent, especially considering the fact that the man did not start serious vocal training until just in the last couple of years (I read somewhere he started training during filming of the second Lara Croft film). He's not a perfect singer -- I hear him breathe in spots where more experienced singers would not breathe -- but I didn't hear him go off key -- although there is one spot in the title song where he slides down from "me" to "they hear." His passion and pain at Christine's betrayal after "All I ask of You," is clearly heard in his voice, and his "You will curse..." gave me chills. In MOTN he whispers, cajoles, and is seductive... sure convinced me to want to listen to his music of the night
. I liked his Point of No Return, and the stuff following that was great.
I thought Emmy sounded wonderful. I didn't hear any problems with her high notes -- in fact, when she hit the top note at the end of "Think of Me" I got a shiver up my spine. Her voice and Gerry's seem to blend well together. I didn't detect any shakiness on her high notes at all, and was impress with how good she sounded on the low notes. Wonder what her range is?
Patrick, I didn't really focus on too much -- too focused on Gerry Butler, I guess
. But he did seem a bit breathy in spots, although I have to say it seemed to work when we first hear him in "Think of Me." The way I imagine it, he's seeing Christine for the first time in a very long time, and the sight and sound of her have left him breathless. I liked the spoken dialogue during Masquerade by Raoul and Christine.
I have to listen to it again, but overall, I'm very exited about what I've heard and cannot wait for the film.
I was listening the highlights cd of the movie, and at the beginning of mascarede there is an amazing kind of second act overtoure.
Anyone knows if theres any kind of intermission in the movie?

It's a lovely score. I'm listening to it too.
And, the dialogue portions ARE wonderful. Both Emmy and Patrick have lovely singing and speaking voices.
But, heck, I'd pay to have Patrick Wilson read the phonebook to me.
