I think Chenoweth could do it, she is precious but I don't think we've seen the full extent of what she could do... let her get dirty.

But my big vote would go for Susan Egan... she's sassy and classy... a combo that is perfect for Eliza.

is Emmy the one from the "phantom" movie??? she sux and she looks like a fish..doesnt she? i mean...she is an ok singer...but she annoys me for whatever reason.....her acting was as touching as seeing a car passing by.

what about Heather Laws? i think she's phenomenal and completely underrated.

Whoever mentioned Colin Firth as Henry: That is a MAGNIFICENT idea...he's a wonderful actor and I'm convinced that he could do anything.

Laura was the first person I thought of when I saw the topic. She'd be great.

By the way check out her new FX series premiering in July. It's called STARVED. Let's just say she is awesome and the show should be a smash.

I'm surprised no one has yet to mention Sutton Foster. This woman is a comedic master, and has an amazing voice...she'd really make Eliza a character and if she works on her soprano, she'd do a great job.

I also agree with Laura Benanti.

Are you kidding me? Have you heard her upper tones? Beautiful! (and Eliza is actually not that high). I think that she could def. be a contender for the role.

The more I read these choices, the more I think my choice of Linzi Hateley is ideal.

Linzi Hately - Eliza
Kelsey Grammer - Higgins
Julian Ovenden - Freddy

Feodor - Kelsey certainly makes a lot of sense - it hadn't occurred to me, as I tend to think of British actors in the role.

i love the sutton to death and back again but and I think sutton would be good, but i don't know, for some reason i dont think she'd be astonishing hahahahah, i love pun's haha

however, i do think laura benanti would be like the dictionary definition of perfection ofr this role. i love her to peices. i would definetly want to see it.

It's surprising me that no one has mentioned Audra McDonald yet. She has outright said that she would love to play the part someday, hinting at the next revival. She would be fantastic. And the already mentioned Laura Benanti would also be perfect. Either of those ladies can do the role.

NOT Susan Egan, Ruthie Henshall, Rebecca Luker, Emmy Rossum, Sutton Foster, or Kristin Chenoweth.

Ya know...I've been of the thought that Audra (and several other of the ladies mentioned) are just a tad too old for the role. But why not have a slightly older Eliza? Especially one as perfect as Ms. McDonald.

I would be in HEAVEN if Audra McDonald played Eliza! I always thought that she would perfect for that role. I would also enjoy seeing Laura Benanti, and Kristin Chenoweth in the role too.

After seeing Martine McCutcheon in the London revival, I couldn't imagine anyone else in the role. She was fantastic. But I would consider Audra...

I agree with Colin Firth and Sutton Foster

But out of curiousity... are they thinking about a revival? Because I think that Julie Andrews should have some part in that... because she was cheated out of the first movie.
