They won't rent RENT? Tee hee hee...
mine rents and sells!
I worked as an assistant manager for a video store while I was in college and we would always get the next week's releases four or five days early. We always used to play them on the screens in the store, so that way people were asking about them and wanting to know when they could get rent it. Was always a good way to start some buzz....plus it kinda tortured people too!
yeah, the one i go to is cool because they always get new releases at least one week before their street date but i guess they don't worry about renting them out because when i went in the other day they were playing RENT in the store and i asked if i could rent it and they said yes.
I ordered mine so it will come Tuesday but I enjoy the wait.
I mean its fun to get hyped up about something for alittle bit, because after you watch it like 3 times it goes in the back of the DVD closet.

I've had mine for about a week now. The commentary only has Columbus, Rapp and Pascal. It's ok. The documentary on Larson is heartbreaking. I only watched the alternate ending, and can see why they changed it.
Lamc16, consider yourself lucky. If the fed's find out stores are renting early, there's a serious fine involved. A video store here in town just got fined because they had "an unfair advantage" by putting movies out early.
totally random but kyguy i like your avatar!
Its so cute.
Absolutely right.
There is a steep fine if this store is caught selling before the street date.

Only under contract law from disributers. There is no federal law preventing the sale of movies before the street date. The Federal Government has no authority over it. It's a matter that would have to go to court.
For the people who've got them already, where are you from?
Let me just tell you that if you mention the name of the store or (stores) on this site, I will have to report them to Sony.
They may not be breaking any Federal laws, but they are breaking a contract with Sony to sell the product. Believe me, I know what I'm talking about here.
It's a far bigger deal than you think, and the stores know this already.
I know that it's a big deal, but I don't really care.
If they're selling them, I will buy one.
Do you work for Sony?
Sony Home Entertainment is one of my clients.
I see.
If Sony didn't want them distributed early, they shouldn't have supplied the product so early. I know ultimately it's the store's responsibility to ensure that the product doesn't get on the shelf until the release date, but most companies ship so the stores recieve them the Monday before they're released.
Sony is such a mess now that this should be the least of their problems.
lol, meagan. is that a threat or a promise, best12? besides, not that i would give out the name on a public post (and now i definitely won't because they're an independent store but very reliable), but just so you know, they've been in business for 20+ years and they've been dealing their business that way for about as long. i asked someone who works there and apparently they've gotten threats of a fine but nothing has ever come of it. calm down, it's not like they're selling bootlegs--than sony would really be in trouble, wouldn't they?
Bottom line, sony makes money.
They can use it to pay off either payola settlement.
exactly. i really don't see what the problem is.
Everyday in class my professor is like Sony sucks...and here is why.
Product is always supplied early to stores. They have to have them in advance for inventory and stocking the shelves. Each box is also carefully marked with a rigid sell date. They are in violation of their agreement with Sony.
It's not open for "opinions."
If they're caught, or reported, they will receive a fine, or even a law suit if it were a big enough breach of their agreement.
I have been asked as a favor by the Director of Worldwide DVD, as well as the Senior VP of Marketing for Sony Home Ent., to report any early releases or illegal sales of their products, if I see them or hear about them. In fact, I've already talked with them today about the 20 Sony titles I currently have in production. I'm a senior DVD producer at my place of business. I speak with them several times during each business day.
So... bring it on if you want to.
