What is wrong with you people? You can't wait a few days for your stupid DVD? Grow the F up and don't get nasty to people who are trying to do the right thing.
And seriously - narc? NARC??? What is this, an afterschool special???
It was a joke. I thought you of all people would get that, Rath.

Ha! Lamc16 and I agree on something!
Wow, after leaving this thread yesterday it looks like it totally "exploded."
Thanks, Kringas. I think you really get my point, which a lot of these hot-headed kids missed entirely. Imagine if you owned your own video store, and the guy down the street got his shipment of the RENT DVD ahead of yours and started selling the product prior to the street date. You'd lose a lot of your business for that particular title. You would likely turn around and try to settle this issue with Sony. The street dates are there for a reason. Mostly for the merchants, not the consumers.
And if it's a hot title like Star Wars III, which I also worked on, you can bet that any and all merchants who were caught selling that DVD prior to the street date were served with a nice fat law suit from Lucasfilm. It was a real crack-down, and everyone received lots of friendly warnings about it in advance. They had the FBI working around the clock on illegal releases and premature sales of that DVD.
BUT... I'm preaching to the choir here, Kringas. I know you understand what I'm talking about. And I feel good that at least some of you readers do.
BOTTOM LINE: It's not just "sticking to the rules" that's the issue. It's unfair business practices for a store to be selling prior to a release date.
Thanks again. I think I'm out of this thread for good now.
*heads for the shower*
(P.S. --- Rathy, I got a big laugh out of that "Narc" comment too. I felt just like Kristy McNichol in an afternoon movie.)

::slaps forehead::
It appears the kids here don't understand the concept of ethical business practice, and not supporting a business that is behaving unethically.
For christ sake people, this is not a difficult idea.
Someone said that Costco would have it on Monday. Is that legit, illegal, or a false rumor? Not that I feel the need to purchase it. I am just curious. (I am so lying)

Costco will probably have it in their posession on Monday, but unless they've worked a specific deal with Sony (which I really doubt, and am betting would have been advertised on Sony's site), it shouldn't be on the sale floor until Tuesday.
ETA: I am sure it's up to the individual store if they decide to break the rule by putting it out early, the company would be in a world of hurt if they were following the practice company-wide.
That's what I figured. I should probably just wait until it hits the discount rack anyway.

Wow, best12bars is a jackass.
And if, as he claims, the FBI was working "round the clock" to prevent early sales of Star Wars III, thats truly a depressing sentiment to where our tax dollars go.

"Wow, best12bars is a jackass."
If you think a person doing his job as well as taking the moral high road is a jackass thing to do, then that is a true testament to your lack of character.
