When I was in college I just got 'accent' tapes from my profs for british, irish, etc.
Just found out I'm in a show that requires a Russian accent - anyone ahve the first clue where I find these tapes or purchase them from? I don't even kno where to start looking...
It's got a Russian disc on there.

How do you mean? I see your above post
Get this book. It comes with CDs, is not very expensive (should be thirty-something dollars), and is the only dialect book you'll ever need.

Take the train down to Brighton Beach.
Vanessa Williams does a good job with the Russian accent in the Kiss of the spider woman cd.

Might I suggest a quick trip to Kiev?
lol, if only.
I just got my cast list Friday night for Chess and I'm playing Svetlana - so excited but...the only other time I did a russian accent was when I was Helena in Drood and it was just kinda what came out of my mouth at auditions, I didn't even know I could do one and anyone who knows the show knows that the accuracy in execution of it was not crucial to that character, lol.
JUst wanna start working on this now, as I begin my research, etc.
thanks for those suggestions, I'm gonna go google some things and look through my library system here - I just had no idea what to even google or put in a search engine, so thanks so much!! this really helped!
bbc learning tapes are great too. though many of them are for learning russian as an actual second language, they represent the best russian dialects in order to maintain precision.
I hate fake Russian accents.
People don't seem to realize that sounds they make doing a Russian exist don't actually exist in the Russian language.

Aw hell - just listen to Boris and Natasha from Rocky & Bullwinkle.
If you want authentic, rent the movie MOSCOW ON THE HUDSON. The actor who plays Robin Williams' friend (the clown) and the two actors who play the KGB agents are Russian.
Where's sanda when we needs her?
Я не знал, что Санда говорит по-русски.
