well, how do i start? understudies can definitly be amazing. i have seen piazza 3 times with tony winner victoria clark. can anyone be better than her as margaret? hell yes!!! patti gave a performance that touched me more than victoria's. her singing is as good as clark's but she made the role more believable, at curtain call time, patti was crying, it was really something else. she was simply thrilling. i can't explain it, it was a master class for any actor to see patti in action. aaron lazar was great as fabrizio, probably i prefer matt morrison, but he was as talented as matt. katie clarke was...how do i put it? she played a more childish clara, but at the same time we can say she was overacting, her voice is weaker than kelli o'hara's, even the original understudy jennifer hughes and franca(sarah uriarte berry) have stronger voices, the question is why a girl fresh out of college with just a high school production of "anything goes" in her bio got this starring role on broadway???!!! clarke was just ok. it made me miss kelli o'hara, a lot!
AMEN muscle!
Piazza is the best thing that's happened to true musical theatre recently. It's not glitz and glamor, it's not about showstopping dance numbers. It's about a gorgeous story and gorgeous music. I mean, Christ, they have a harp and a bassoon in the orchestra!
Patti is one of the best things that could happen to a cast. I saw the show in July of last year and she was my Margaret. At first I was disappointed because I wouldn't get to see Victoria Clark, but Patti just took my breath away. How amazing! I went back to the show April 8 with my best friend and got to see her as Signora, which was fantastic because I just LOVE her part in Autami. =) I had been in contact with Patti and she ended up taking us for this amazing backstage tour and she was the kindest soul ever.
Broadway - Patti Cohenour deserves top-rate and more!

I'd love to see her in the role. Thanks for the review. Does anyone know of any future performances that she is expected to be playing Margaret?
~Steven
She performs EVERY tuesday and wednesday evening as margaret
SHe plays all Tuesday and Wednesday Eves.
i waited for patti after the show, i was the only person waiting for her, she thanked me for waiting and i told her she was my favorite margaret, she was so amazing, i can't say enough good things about her. patti's acting is simply thrilling. she is the best.
"played a more visible retarded clara"
Am I the only one that finds this questionable?
patti made margaret more real and more vulnerable, it was the only time i could relate to this charachter and feel what she is feeling. how many times do you see an actress crying by the curtain call?...i can't get over it, i wanted to go and hug her, usually the role of clara is the one that moves me in this show, tonight it was margaret for the 1st time.
munk, thanks for the remark...i didn't know how to put it...i changed my use of words.
If you don't know how to put it, then how can you possibly understand this show? You amaze me.
im glad that you find me amazing...hehe
Wow, ohk, I totally knew that she played certain performances regularly and yet I still asked. I feel silly now, haha. Thanks for the info anyway.

Personally, I thought Kelli played a better RETARD.
Keep in mind that Tom Cruise's performance on Oprah was also amazing.
Munk... you can understand it "up here" in the brain and just not be able to articulate it in type at nearly 2 am.
Muscle... I understand you.
Katie's Clara is very obviously immature, child-like. You KNOW there is something WRONG with her. With Kelli, you just have this hint that there's something kind of "up," but you don't really know what. Kelli played like she was feasibly a nearly normal mid-20's girl who has these bouts, these episodes. Katie played it so that the girl seemed close to a mid-teen in maturity and such. Her line of "ask it then!" in "Say it Somehow" where she wants Fabrizio to ask her to marry him - just seemed SO little-kid lets-pretend-and-play-house. She was great and a wonderful, fresh, new, younger-type Clara. It's just a different Clara.
Is Tom Cruise a RETARD, too?
Yes. He jumps on couches like a buffoon and gets real stupid real quick.
I feel bad for RETARDS. Especially RETARDS in musicals. What made Tom Cruise RETARTED, does he have diabetes or did Star Jones kick him in the head?
Better question: What made "RETARTED" a word?
Last I checked, the second "T" is supposed to be a "D."

So, muscle, you're up in NYC again? Glad you liked Piazza and Wedding Singer. I have to wait for their respective tours. I have admired Patti Cohenhour's work back to the 80's. Hard to believe that the same woman can sing country belt in Big River and then operatic soprano in La boheme, Phantom of the Opera, and Drood. She is a vocal wonder. I saw her live in Phantom right after SB left the show (8
and as a young high schooler, wrote to her c/o the theatre. Not only did she write me back but we corresponded a little for a while. She is an excellent performer and wish her all the best!
I was merely copying Muscle's spelling - that's the point.
