Because they both begin with E's.

Recently I was fighting with my friend over who has a better story. I said Eponine, she said Elphaba.

What do you all think?

Eponine dies. Elphaba has a chance for a sequel.

although I really like Elphaba's story and I think it is a creative story with a nice twist.. and it is amazing how they took such a hated role and made her so loved.. I think Eponine's story in Les Mis is one of my all time fav stories. just the because its so sweet how she does anything for the man she loves even if he doesn't love her in return and she's just so happy and peaceful to be in his arms when she is dieing.. I think a little fall of rain is one of the pretties songs out there. Its just got a spot in my heart and its one of my all time fav characters.

Tough, but I feel Eponine's characteriztion in the musical's context is really quite cliche at times. While being a ground-breaking character in musical theatre, I think its safe to say Elphaba has the stronger upperhand.
Elphaba is more developed and stronger.

Ponine. Has the better nickname, better crush, better death- oh right. SHE DIES AND STAYS DEAD.

I don't know Les Miz (shoot me now), so I'll say Elphaba.

Hmmm. LesMis has been my favorite musical for years. I haven't seen Wicked yet, but I have tickets for Dec. 26th. I've read the book though and know the music. I'm beginning to think Wicked might become my new favorite musical. Elphaba is a great character. Eponine has a great song, but she's just a love sick girl. Elphaba is more complex than that. I think I'll have to go with Elphaba.

I have never disliked the Wicked Witch. Dorothy, to me, as always been a spoiled little bitch who always gets her way.

I really can't see how anyone can consider this a contest. Eponine. There's no comparison.

And hang on, when did you win the discus?

How exactly do you define "better"?
Elphaba would certainly be considered the more fortunate one. And the more developed character of the two. She is also a main character, whereas Eponine plays what is basically a supporting role. All that being said, Eponine has always been my favorite character on stage. So I don't really know what to say. It depends on what you mean by better.
