Saw it yesterday afternoon.

Some brief thoughts:

-Really interesting ideas presented but none of them are FULLY fleshed out. With a weaker cast, the characters would almost fall apart at the seams. None of them are completely and fully realized.

-The first act is pretty strong; the second has some pacing issues and drags here and there. I found the 2008 storyline to be more interesting than the 1958 one, mainly because I just didn't really like that they never SHOW Oliver and Philip (spoiler?) falling in love. It just kinda happens and we're supposed to take this leap of faith, which I did buy into to some extent, mainly because Wishaw and Dancy are so strong. (End spoiler.)

-Four stellar actors giving 10 great performances all around (I think there are ten characters in the show...can't remember). Andrea Riseborough was actually my favorite cast member, bringing humor and deeper dimensions to both roles she played. But the entire cast is really spellbinding.

-Joe Mantello's direction is assured, simple, and lovely. He is so much better at handling intimate shows like this than he is at the bigger, flashier shows...generally speaking.

Overall, I did enjoy it. There are some issues in the writing but there are some scenes that are just breathtaking and so gripping. And the great cast more than makes up for the flaws in the text. See it if you can. But if you can't, it's not the end of the world.

So, if I have to choose between 'Next Fall' and 'The Pride'....I should choose Next Fall right?

I'd choose NEXT FALL over THE PRIDE.
I'd choose THE PRIDE over NEXT FALL.
I'm torn.
I'd see both in a heartbeat.

Ok so then where does "The Boys in the Band" fit in?

DEFINITELY see NEXT FALL if you have to choose between that and THE PRIDE. No competition.

I'd say The Pride, but Next Fall was good, too.
