Oh my God, you guys are getting me hungry. And I had a burger for dinner. Oh, I'm practically salivating. Also, Capital Grill is really great. It's not exactly on Broadway in that it's not but the chicken is also to die for.
Oh my God, I have to get off this thread. Like right now before I open a bag of pretzels of something. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm, pretzels.
Good night and good luck!

there is Brazil Grill on 48th and 8th, very good Brazilian food.
I also like Europa Cafe for quicker stuff, their lemonade is very good.
Of course there is stuff like TGIFridays and Bubba Gumps.

Delta Grill on 9th and 48th for Cajun/Louisiana
Kevin St. James on Eighth bet 46/7 for good pub food. Sent some tourists there on Saturday when we couldn't get into Virgil's and they liked it.
The Brazilian place that J3 mentioned I like as well.

Kodama Sushi on 45th and Broadway, across from the Hirschfeld. In one evening, I sat across from 2 History Boys (Dominic Cooper and James Corden) and Jenn Gambatese.
If you want fast food, I recommend the "Chicken Bar" place next door. I've run into many-a Wedding Singer cast member there.

Posted: 12/11/06 at 9:21pmOh my God, the Brazilian grill on 48th, Churascaria Platforma or something, right? I went last year when my friend's school had their christmas party there, and like, two hours of nonstop eating later, I was so tempted to just go and throw up in the bathroom so I could eat more, lol. It was soooo good, and their unlimited wine option made it even more awesome.

Ollie's is a big favorite of mine...the scallion pancakes are amazing. Other favorites are Virgil's, Dervish, Ruby Foo's, Le Rivage, and Sapporo.
And hey, don't knock McDonald's! I'm pretty sure I don't need to comment on the food, but it has provided me with many a quick sub-$8 meal when I'm in the theatre district alone and broke from getting tickets to a show. My personal favorite is the one on 42nd next to the New Amsterdam...it's quite nice and the upper level has a good view.

Posted: 12/11/06 at 9:36pmOllie's is amazing. Great Chinese food for good prices. And their General Tao Chicken is awesome. My family & I always go there every time we're in NYC. There's also this place called "Cafe Europa" of something similar that makes delicious flatbread sandwiches too.

An early or late dinner somewhere not in the theatre district. I'm usually desperate to get the f' out of Times Square.
Celeste (Italian) on Amsterdam between 84/85 and Lederhosen (German) at Grove/Bleeker are two favourites. Both are inexpensive and casual.

Cafe Edison at the Edison Hotel is GREAT! Cheap and a location to spot Broadway stars. A visit by Neil Simon inspired him to write 45 SECONDS FROM BROADWAY.
And ROXYS as GREAT food but are PRICY!! I haven't had a bad experience. I go there for dessert after evening shows. Their Black Cake is DELICIOUS!!!

If you wanna get out of the time-square area, there is some great places by lincoln center, Cafe Lalo on I think 80th. There are some great places up by columbia where I am but that is a bit far from the theatre district.
There are some great places, just take some time to walk around and look for the whole in the wall places. Those in my opinion are the best.

Cafe Lalo has a nice atmosphere but the worst service ever; it's bad even by NYC standards.
Cafe Mozart at 70th/B'way is similar insofar as dessert selection (and has better meals, I think) but with better service.

Man, I am starving now.
I just want to add, I may never go to Sardi's in my life,
because my mom & dad went there after prom & there was a bug in my mom's salad.
True this was in the 80s, but blech nonetheless.

I will second (or third?) the coffee shop at the Edison Hotel--I just took my son there before we saw "Rent." I had a delicious brisket sandwich. I wish I'd gotten one of the soups, though, as they are supposed to be very good. And you can't beat the prices!
On the opposite end of the scale, we have been to Bubba Gump's and I have to agree that the food is surprisingly good, and the servers were cheerful and funny. But it is really quite expensive. I'd go there for a special occasion or with out-of-town guests, but not on a regular basis.
I've also been to Ponsgri Thai on West 48th St which had decent Thai food, and is reasonably priced.

Posted: 12/12/06 at 12:39pmI highly recommend Chelsea Grill of Hell's Kitchen. It's a few blocks from the theaters (9th Ave between 46th and 47th), but in my book that's a good things. Further away = less tourists. The food was declicious, good service, nice atmosphere. An excellent post-theater dinner.
