A friend just read this thread over my shoulder and screamed "Playwright's over on 8th" in my ear.
Saw Bubbs Gumps mention. Normally I hate theme restaurants and touristy places, but I've been there a few times and like it.

Lindy's - Only restaurant I have ever eaten at in the heart of times square area. It's on the Avenue of America's I think (I'm directionally challenged). A bit pricey, but the food was amazing.
A bit further down, but I was seeing a concert at the Beacon Theater and we went to eat at this Irish Pub/restaurant around the corner. Service was horrible, but oh well. I order Chicken Francheise. The only light in the place was by candle light. I happened to notice that the chicken was a little weird when I cut into it. We took into the light by the bar and it was barely cooked. I was appalled. We mentioned it to a manager, and they scoffed like oh it's supposed to be pink like that. I was like ?????? If I had eaten it I would've been VERY sick.

DaRosina, on restaurant row, is a good moderatly priced Italian, and a bit quiter than Carmines.
One more thing about Bubba Gumps: the views are great!

Gallagher's on W. 52nd Street (near the Alvin, I mean, Neil Simon Theatre).
After shows you can spot quite a handful of LAW & ORDER people as well as Broadway people...wait -- that's the same thing, right?

Love Sardi's -Ask for the "Actor's menu" for the best prices!
Also love the Hourglass on 46th between 8th and 9th. Great food at great prices.

I adore John's Pizzaria on 44th between Broadway and 8th. Mmmm.
Sardis is a wonderful place with great food and a theater atmosphere.
I also love Rosie O'Grady's a few blocks down, on 52nd and 7th. There are two: the one further downtown on anout 49th I think is a bit more upscale.
EDIT: I've always avoided Bubba Gump because it seems like a huge tourist place, but you guys've made me want to try it out.
Ahhh, no food like in New York!

Posted: 12/12/06 at 4:13pmSardi's and Tony diNapoli's on 43rd are two of my faves. Of course The Olive Garden in Time's Square is a great choice. Ruby Foo's is fun, too. Roxy's is great as well.

Posted: 12/12/06 at 6:47pmhow about Daniela's Trattoria on 8th avenue between 45th & 46th. Ate there a couple of times, great food, excellent service, and very reasonable prices. Very intimate two story restuarant, but a good place to eat out for dinner....
