I will be going to NY on Sunday to see BE and i remember someone on this board recommending Tony Di (which I have been to many times), and also I thought I remembered Cagneys being recommended. I would like to try a new Italian Restaurant. I did a search on here and on the internet but could not find anything on a Cagney's.
Any info would be appreciated

BE is on 46th, right? TriColori on 47th is a good Italian place not far from there. It's next to the Brooks Atkinson where Rock of Ages plays.

You could, also, check menupages.com. I've found them to be a great source if you're looking for a restaurant that's in a certain area and/or serves a certain type of food.

IMO the best Italian restaurant in the theater district is Becco, on Restaurant Row - West 46th Street - operated by Lidia and Joe Bastianich. The service is terrific the food sublime and the prices are reasonable. When you make a reservation, request a table on the second floor, it is quieter than the first and tell them you will be attending a show if you are going to dine first, they will take good care of you. Here is the website:

Becco is fantastic...expensive and usually very crowded but the food is really great.

They usually have an all-you-can-eat three course pasta dinner. Three different types of pasta and they just keep piling it on your plate.

I would go with Becco as well. Also, ask about prix fixe, they don't always advertise but often will offer one.

Puttanesca on 56th and 9th is an excellent choice. The food is absolutely incredible and the service is great as well. My personal favorite thing about Puttanesca is its willingness to accomodate you and serve you both nicely and quickly.

I know that I can always count on this place for an excellent, affordable meal that won't be rushed through in order to make the curtain.

Take note that they only accept American Express and cash.

Yes.... but not this Sunday ..... it's the 9th Ave International Food Fair - a mile-long street fair that is incredibly crowded.

I ate at Trattoria Trecolori this week upon recommendations from several message boards, and I was quite thrilled. It moves to the top of my list for Italian restaurants in the theater district!
