A lot of the people you named, however, are quite young, and I'm sure they'll all get the chance to originate another leading role on Broadway. So I think it's too early to know what roles Sutton Foster, Idina Menzel, Marissa Jaret Winokur, Alice Ripley and Emily Skinner will all be known for.

What about Ethel in Gypsy, Angela Lansbury - Mame and Sweeney, Gwen Verdon - Damn Yankees, Mary Martin - The Sound of Music, Robert Preston - Music Man, Barbara Cook - Candide and Music Man. There are obviously A LOT of very young people on this site. Have seen all of the above, and believe me the Sheris, Idinas, Kristins, Suttons, Pascals, etc. simply don't even come close!

Mr. Roxy, I agree with you about Robert Preston -- I recently saw the tv movie version with Matthew Broderick, and while I didn't think he was that bad, I still had thoughts of Robert Preston going through my mind, especially during "You Got Trouble."
