re: show for a 13 yr old boy with Dad That's a sweet story, Corine (and I am sorry for your loss--I can relate). I think that Hairspray and Spelling Bee could be fun.

"If he's really in to theater he won't like Tarzan, and I would'nt recomend paying for it."

I'd disgree with that. I'm very into all aspects of theatre, of all composers and all facets of the stage. (Please don't limit my opinions because of my username) I saw Tarzan this week and was so entertained as well all of the young children around me. I'm not 13, but I'm sure if I was I'd like the show a lot.

I am so damn sick of people talking down to young people like this.

AMEN! The guy is 13, not 6! To say Sweeney is too sophisticated or beyond him is ignorant. Thirteen year olds know a lot more these days. I really don't think anything playing would be to much for him.
I would avoid Forbidden Broadway unless he has an incredible knowledge of musicals of which to refer. He won't get a lot of the humor, not because it is over his head, but because he won't know what they are making fun of. It drives me crazy when people say "Go see Forbidden Broadway" before anything else. See a real show, then go see FB.

PEACE.

Scarywarhol, completely agree. All of us were 13 once, and weren't we the little grown-ups back then! If my dad tried to take me to Disney when I was going into 8th grade, I would have revolted.

Especially since this guy is getting the night out for his 13th birthday, turning into a man -- bar mitzvah or confirmation or whatever -- he should be treated like the young adult he is becoming.

Spamalot, Spelling Bee, Jersey Boys, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Wedding Singer, and The Drowsy Chaperone would be my top choices for your situation, in that order.

I would guess they'd love Spelling Bee and Jersey Boys.

The Wedding Singer. NY is about fun, Broadway is about fun. Don't try to make him think too much. He has the rest of his life for that.
