an inside source has told me that the off-broadway production of spring awakening, recently announced for a broadway transfer is hoping to move to the eugene o'neill theater.
yes, sweeney will close soon.
so unfortunate that it didn't win the tony, it would be open a little longer.
What is going on with the Music Box theatre?
The Vertical Hour is there this fall

Is the Vertical Hour just an engagement? I would think it would be with the stars invovled, but since it's at the Music Box I wasn't sure.
Meeeeeeh.
It is limited I was confused I thought they were asking about the fall plans for Spring and so I was saying that the Music Box is occupied but in the sping it should be open...
Spring Awakening may be hoping for the O'Neill, but I still imagine High Fidelity is going to book that house. High Fidelity even announced their dates (November 20 previews; December 7 opening) with the house still to be announced. The O'Neill is the only first class theatre that seems like it will be available soon.
what's going on with Helen Hayes after Kiki and Herb?

I know that guy is going in with his puppet. (Sorry that sounds so bad, but I can't remember his name) But I think that house might be too small for Spring Awakening, or I think they won't put it in there, though I hear from the show is really small and has the band on stage with them.
*grumble*
I was hoping to catch "Spring Awakening" off-Broadway while I'm here in NYC but all of the $10 rush tickets are sold-out for the rest of the run (according to their theatre voicemail)
It's a double-slap in the face (to this "Sweeney" fan) if it goes into the O'Neill, but we all know this Doyle masterpiece is shuttering soon. Good for "Awakening" though.

What about the Belasco Theatre? Anything planned to open there?

I don't think it's a "hot" theater, but it's got a fairly large number of seats. I could see Spring Awakening working well in there, or some of the other smaller musicals opening this season.

It's gonna be even harder for me to see Sweeney go than it was to see Cabaret go.
*tears of sorrow*

Jay Johnson: The Two and Only
Saw SPRING AWAKENING at the Atlantic last night and loved it, particularly the score. I would classify this more as a play with an internal song cycle that acts as commentary - rather than a conventional "musical." But whatever it is, I think its fresh and exciting and has a terrific young cast.
It's also a big risk to move this to Broadway, but bravo for the courage of the producers (with this, GREY GARDENS, the John Doyle COMPANY, etc., it's going to be quite the new art year for Broadway next season).
For Broadway: I hope:
1. They keep the onstage 10 dollar seats.
2. They work on the ending of the show, it's muddled and I think most of the audience was confused what happened.
3. Make sure they have a killer sound system: lots of lost lyrics at the Atlantic.
4. Recast the role of the "Adult Woman." Mary McCann was the definite weak link.
I look forward to seeing it again at the O'Neill this fall.

What will be in the Cort and Belasco theatres?

i love how a rediculous insult to theatre like CATS can run for 20 years but sweeney runs for barely one. Blasphemy...
I am eager to hear more about this production. I hope I am able to catch it while on Broadway. Updated On: 7/29/06 at 09:34 PM
Bennett - How is Doyle's Company a "new art" piece? He just did it this year? Or is there more to it then the instrument gimmick?
sorry this is off topic.
Can people please learn to spell "ridiculous?" Please?
I think Company still qualifies as "new art" in the sense that (even though Doyle's done it in Europe before) the idea is still certainly not one well-worn in and common to American theater. It's not brand new, but the second time does not old idea make.
The instrument gimmick. Its definitely an "avant garde" staging of it.
Supposedly, LITTLE DOG LAUGHED is getting the Court.
I could be wrong (and my source isn't exactly reliable), but isn't "High Fidelity" also vying for the Eugene O'Neill?
