Posted: 11/21/06 at 11:57amWOW. That is all I can really say. Had onstage, PERFECT seats. Complete sensory overload and a total EXPERIENCE. SCrew watching, you are IN. The staging with the ensemble... perfection.. Jonathan Wright singing directly into my ear.. wow.. Jon Groff sitting just below me when not onstage... PITCH PERFECT casting.. especially with the adults.. very few things in the casting to gripe about. A return visit must be made SOON

Posted: 11/21/06 at 11:59amQuick question about the onstage seating: At the Atlantic, the music was so loud that it was really hard to hear lyrics while sitting onstage (and it didn't help that I was right next to the drummer). Is it better with the larger stage?

Posted: 11/21/06 at 12:01pmI had that problem last week onstage. The music was, at times, too loud to understand the lyrics. So it's really more of an experience type of deal to do the onstage seats.

Posted: 11/21/06 at 12:03pmit wasn't too bad actually. as far as the sound design, there is a small speaker in the floor under each seat, one larger speaker above the seating area, and then you get a little of what comes through the main speaker arrays... you are very much in a different space than the reast of the audience and the sound wasn't overpowering at all.

The show is perfectly seen from the stage. It's when you're in the actual seating area that is the problem. The intimacy is lost.
If you want to enjoy this show (to whatever extent possible) sit on stage.

so for a first timer seeing the show, see it from the onstage seats? do you ever feel...i dont know, awkward sitting with the actors and the audience facing you?
and how much are the onstage seats? i think i read $30 dollars or something...

One more question- do you see a lot of the actor's backs?
I'm seeing this with my friend in December, and I want to make sure we get the best sort of experience possible.
:)
Thanks

Posted: 11/21/06 at 12:48pmYep, they're $31.25. I cannot possibly imagine seeing this show from the audience's level, especially from the mezzanine. As I've said in previous threads, they should have either kept it off-Broadway or put it in the Hayes. The tiny show is swallowed up whole in the O'Neill. It's a shame.

Luckily not many people experienced the show from the mezz last Saturday afternoon since only the first three rows were occupied. The orchestra was full though.

last night, orchstra was packed and the front mezz was reasonably full, with the rear mezz being empty. not bad for a little show with no stars in its first week of previews. i think sale will spike after opening and as work of mouth grows.
foster just likes being stage left because he is a gay man. sit where ever they give you. you will be fine. besides, the box office man had no idea what stage left meant when i asked himw hich side the seats were on before he printed my ticket.

When I saw Sweeney, the orchestra was full, and the front mezz was filled somewhat, but the upper mezz was empty, so it sounds like they're selling about the same.
Do you think critics will rereview the show since it's now on Broadway or just reprint their off-Broadway reviews like they did with Bee and some other shows that didn't have cast changes?
#16re: spring awakening last night.. just wow
Posted: 11/21/06 at 4:06pmTransfers are generally re-reviewed, aren't they? I didn't think it was common to just reprint old reviews when the productions obviously change. Spelling Bee got reviewed twice.

Posted: 11/21/06 at 4:08pmDid it? I thought they just reprinted the off-broadway reviews. But maybe I'm wrong. I was hoping they would rereview it just because its in a new space, and I'm curious to see how it holds up.
#18re: spring awakening last night.. just wow
Posted: 11/21/06 at 4:09pmIf I recall correctly, Spelling Bee was reviewd off and then on Broadway.

It will get re-reviewed.
I have no desire to sit onstage for this show. I don't want the audience staring at me while I am trying to enjoy the show. I want to watch the show, not be IN the show.

Posted: 11/21/06 at 5:08pmas i said in PM, I don't think you feel th audience 'staring' at you at all. i likened to to a theatre in the round experience. you are conscious that they exist there, but you dont pay them any mind.
#21re: spring awakening last night.. just wow
Posted: 11/21/06 at 5:08pmDon't sit on stage. I did it at the Atlantic and it was awful. I was level with the band, so I missed about 70% of the lyrics, and my seat was so far to the side that I was practically in the dressing room. If you belong to TDF, pay the extra $5 and get a good orchestra seat. I did that for my return visit this past Saturday and go sixth-row center seats. I enjoyed the show much more than I did when I first saw it because I was able to see and hear everything.
