suggestions?

im gonna be in the city in june and ive picked out the shows that i would like to see but im having a hard time choosing, i can only see about 8, the choices are:
9 to 5
billy elliot
blithe spirit
chicago
in the heights
jersey boys
next to normal
rock of ages
39 steps
lion king
phantom of the opera
the philanthropist
west side story

so thats what i thought would be good, so ur opinion would be appreciated. also if there is any other shows, off broadway included, that u would really recomend i would consider them.

re: suggestions?

Definitely next to normal.

Then...only 3 really jumped out at me...

Blithe Spirit
In The Heights
Jersey Boys (if you haven't seen it before)

re: suggestions?

of your list:
9 to 5
billy elliot
blithe spirit
in the heights*
jersey boys
next to normal*
lion king*
west side story

definitely do not miss the options with *asterisks. next to normal is beyond fabulous and is worth every second of your time. in the heights is incredibly original and isn't comparable to much else on broadway. the lion king sounds cliche, but i openly admit that it's high on my list of favorite musicals--it's extremely well done.

also, if you like plays-- i'd add august: osage county to your list. it's one of my favorites.

and i'm away from the city at the moment and haven't seen these yet, but friends have raved about hair and irena's vow.

good luck!

re: suggestions?

Don't waste your time with NEXT TO NORMAL.

From your list, I recommend 9 TO 5, BLITHE SPIRIT, and IN THE HEIGHTS.

Is there a reason why HAIR isn't on your list? It is the most raved about revival this season. You may want to consider adding it in.

Keep in mind that Billy Elliot, Jersey Boys, West Side Storyand Lion King can be fairly hard tickets to come by. They're selling well and there are no discounts. If you definitely want to see any of those four I'd recommend getting those tickets ASAP.

If you're a rent head then Next to Normal is right up your alley. I HIGHLY recommend August, and the 39 steps.

I *loved* RENT. Despised NEXT TO NORMAL.

re: suggestions?

If you can get a ticket Billy Elliot definitely.

I also agree with WBAF - HAIR is my other favorite show this season.

re: suggestions?

Add HAIR to your list and go see it. Make sure to go and see HAIR and the rest of the shows you see or don't see won't even matter. It's phenomenal.

The only other real MUST-SEES on your list are NEXT TO NORMAL and BILLY ELLIOT.

I'd stay away from THE PHILANTHROPIST, ROCK OF AGES, and PHANTOM.

re: suggestions?

Well, I despised RENT and adored Next to Normal....so what is the connection? None.

I agree with adding HAIR to your list, and August: Osage County.

FROM your list: Billy Elliot, 39 Steps, the Lion King and In the Heights.

re: suggestions?

I don't recommend staying away from Phantom unless you've seen it. Personally, I think everyone should see Phantom once. If you have seen it then skip it and see something you haven't seen.

re: suggestions?

I walked out of PHANTOM during intermission last time I saw it. People either love it or hate it.

I agree, there's a very vague connection between RENT and RENT fans and N2N and N2N fans. Sure they may overlap (I like both; I like N2N much more) but they're VERY different shows.

re: suggestions?

Phantom=Classic! Go see it... There is a reason for it being on broadway for 20 years... The Lion King is amazing with sets and costume, so its a good one... 9 to 5 and Next to Normal are good... But I'd also recommend Shrek... Brian D'arcy JAmes, Daniel Breker?, and Christopher Sieber's amazing performances are not to be missed....

re: suggestions?

Dont see Phantom. Waste of Money and time. If you want to see it, wait until your next trip to Las Vegas, and see PHANTOM! THE VEGAS SPECTACULAR!
