i know this has probably been asked a billion times, so i apologize in advance. What is the probability or getting 4 student rush tickets to sweeney todd for a matinee performance? Will i get good seats or will i have to stand at the back? When and where should i go and what days? thank you.
the probability is high. you need two student ID's and the seats are on the sides of the orchestra.
Wednesday matinee, REALLY good chance at great seats. Technically, they don't sell student rush tickets for Saturday and Sunday performances, but I have managed to get some in the past.
I'd go on a Wednesday matinee. Get there an hour early, and you should have no problem getting 4 tickets (as someone said, you do need 2 student ids). You'll get side orchestra, most likely.
What if you're only issued one student ID for school? Would you have to also bring in your lisence?
gypsy2, you need 1 student ID to get two tickets. So if you wanted four, you would need to show two people's IDs.
Random: I was there tonight (there's a thread about it), but I brought my 9 year old brother. When the box office guy was making the SR announcement he said yu'll need a student ID, then turned to my bro and said, but in your case, a passport will do. Twas cute.
Ohh, I see. I thought each person needed 2 forms of ID, the way it was put. Thanks.

ok, so i'll be in new york for the first time in july, pretty exciting. so, if you could explain what rush tickets are please? can i use a high school id? how much are they? how's it all work?
thanks guys.
Student Rush tickets are last minute discount tickets you buy to a show. Depending on how sold out it is, you can get anywhere from side orchestra, to rear mezzanine seats. Prices vary from show to show, but the Sweeney Todd rush seats are $36. You can only buy them the day of the performance, and you need a student id. Up to 2 tickets per id. The policy is that they only sell student rush tickets Tuesday-Thursday, but many people have been able to purchase them on weekends.
Not all shows have student rush tickets. There's a website that has info on which shows do, and how much they cost, etc. I'm too lazy to look for it myself, but if you do a search on BWW you're bound to find it. The link and all the info has been posted on multiple threads.

My daughter is 10 and REALLY wants to see the show - though she doesn't have a student ID, would an ID like a passport do ?? Also, can I (the Dad who is MUCH older than a student) use her other ticket ??
Yes, a passport would work for you, and you can have the second ticket.
I'm bumping this thread because I've got a question about this rush and I didn't want to start a new thread. For all those who have rushed Sweeney, how early do you suggest I get to the box office for say...a Wednesday matinee? Would noon be okay or should I get there earlier? Is it usually crowded?
I'm going tomorrow at 12. Their website says they sell it 2 hours before the performance, though I'm not sure if they just sell when box office opens. I figured I have a good chance of getting seats since it's been doing bad lately.
That's what I figure too. Since it's not selling as well as it was, I don't think that I should have a problem getting them at 12.
I went last Thursday and got there about 20 minutes before the tix went on sale. There were several people in front of me (and quite a few came by the time they started selling the tix at 6) but everyone had no problem getting tix. And I don't know if there's really any rhyme or reason to the the seats they dole out. The people at the very front of the line were only two rows in front of us. They guy behind me ended up in the row in front of us, and the people that were at the end of the line were next to us...So I'm not even particularly sure that getting there super early would get you a significantly better seat. You should be fine getting there just a bit before they go on sale, I'd say.
I did rush for the matinee last Wednesday. I got there around 12:20 and I got Row N Seat 21. The seats were perfectly fine and well worth the price.
I went tonight and the rush tickets were in the back of the balcony. Very full house. Good for them, bad for me
*gasp* Really?! That's so great for them!
That's really great to hear, especially for a Tuesday night. I hope it continues!

Do you think they'd have rush available tomorrow night? I know it's only a Tuesday-Thursday thing, but do you think they'll sell them?

How early should one arrive to try and get rush tix?
