the theater was pretty crowded! i really enjoyed it, especially the elevator scene! i didnt stop laughing. i also loved when charity was hiding in the closet!! the whole show was full of laughs. the one part i wasnt crazy about was the "church" thing with the afro man! haha it kinda reminded me of austin powers, the way they were dancing and all! overall i really liked the show a few friends of mine, my mom and my cousin went together and got student rush tix and our seats were great we were 5 rows from the stage!
at the stage door, the cast was friendly, especially denis o'hare, but christina seemed a little um snobbish idk she just wasnt as personable as denis or the others. i guess she has to put up w/ a lot of peoples crap!
Oh dang, isn't Denis O'Hare the BEST? (Another excuse for me to talk about him. 9 out of 10 of my posts are about him. But he is just that fabulous.)
I'm glad you liked the show!! I totally agree with you about The Rhythm of Life sequence (the church thing, hahaha) in that it was the only part of the show I wasn't crazy about. Loved the rest of it though. I wish I could see it again and again and again...
Glad you enjoyed it.
Whenever people see it they say it was pretty full. I never want it to leave, its much better than people think.

The way Christina advertises herself is amazing. Its almost like she wants the attention and then gets it right there at the stage door. Most hollywood celebs seem to like it. Its gets to be too much.
How does she "advertise herself"?
Sorry but if you're going to make a post like that you've got to give some examples or something... because that made absolutely no sense to me.
Just curious, how has Christina's attendence record been?
I think she's only missed, what, 2 shows? 3? I'm not positive.

Christina is a mystery to me. She seems really snobby, but she's so sweet. She looks kind of snobby..not really happy...
She takes pictures with everybody and signs everybody's Playbills though. I have a lot of respect for her.
I ALWAYS talk about her attitude. I have no idea how to explain it.

Only 2 or 3 shows? Really? If that's the case, I'm impressed. I actually went 8/14 and got to see Charlotte in the role. I loved Charlotte as Charity! Dennis and the rest of the cast are wonderful as well. But, is it just me or does the production rely too much on Christina's name? I mean, even at the box office, I went to buy my tickets and the guy said "You know that Christina's out today." And I'm like, "Yeah...do I care? I just want to see the show." Geez, some faith they have in their show (minus the Christina factor).
I guess most people do go see "Sweet Charity" for Christina though. But it was so sad because I was sitting left orchestra, front row, and about 8 people around me left because they found out Christina wasn't performing. How rude! Which is why I never was a fan of stunt casting.

Well. They need the ticket sales, so they rely on her a lot. They will NEVER give the role to Charlotte full time, because she dosen't sell tickets. Though I would love to see Charlotte in the role.
And technically Christina was NOT stunt casted. She went through intense auditions for the role. Which incldued a 3 hour private singing audition with composer Cy Coleman, and he gave his approval of her.

I was taking a tour that stopped Al Hirschfeld the day you saw the show, 8/14, and we saw the signs saying 'At this performance the role of Charity Hope Valentine will be played by Charlotte D'Amboise' and one of the guys in the tour group got really pissed that he wasn't seeing Christina. I really couldn't understand why, since I'm apparently one of the few who didn't see Charity for Christina....
....and yet, once I put myself in his shoes, I kind of understood. You kind of feel like you've been lied to, a bit, like someone told you 'if you spend a whole lot of money you'll get to see a big famous star!' and then you get there and you realize you're not, but you still spent the money.
However I cannot see why that would be a reason to leave the show without even giving the understudy a chance. Or at least give the rest of the show a chance. I mean, honestly, the producers don't care whether or not you stay at the show. You paid for the ticket. You might as well try to enjoy yourself.
And I bet the box office people are required to tell the customers that. Just to make sure there isn't some yup who tries to ask for a refund after the show because they weren't properly informed of the cast change... or whatever.
I'm really ranting now, and I suppose I'm truly preaching the choir here. So. Uhm. In conclusion. There is more to Charity than Christina. Like Denis!

Well if the people who left early had half a brain, they would have seen the sign at the entrance and asked for a refund. Since Applegate's name is above the title, a patron is allowed to ask for a refund if that name is out. It's pretty stupid that they went in anyway and wasted the money.
