I agree with munkustrap178. I don't think it will last. I don't know if there is going to be an audience. It will work for theatre geeks like everyon on this forum. And, I am not surethe Lyceum isn't a good theatre for it. It is on the wrong side of Broadway. If they got the booth more people would have seen the theatre and know that it is playing.
But, the Lyceum is tucked away back there in a theatre that no one sees. Don't get me wrong I am happy that it is comming to Broadway because I never got around to seeing it off Broadway. But, I still think that this is a bad idea. The number of fans on this forum won't sell enough tickets to last a Broadway run.

It does help to look at it realistically, although I am very much excited because [title of show] is one of my favorites. I find it incredibly amusing to quote it random times just to throw people off.
"Yes, the brutalities of progress are called revolutions. When they are over, men recognize that the human race has been harshly treated but it has moved forward." - Les Miserables

Posted: 4/4/08 at 9:20amCompared to the Belasco and the Cort, I think the Lyceum is pretty visible. I don't think the location is a problem for it at all. It's next to Planet Hollywood and Virgin, across the street from Swatch and Bond 45, and that corner is so heavily trafficked. I don't think the theatre will have been the problem should the show fail.

It doesn't remind me of LITTLE DOG at all.
I just don't understand why this is opening on Broadway. It's good, not great. It's funny, not hysterical. It's kind of silly. It's a little, inconsequential, B-grade musical.
I'm pleased for the show and for it's fans that it's going to gain more exposure, and surely I'll enjoy revisiting the show, but this seems doomed.

Posted: 4/4/08 at 9:45amMunk, I didn't mean it reminded me of LDL; what I meant was I think the journey of [tos] is going to be a repeat of LDL ... meaning it was a successful off-bwy show that moved to Broadway, couldn't find an audience (even despite decent reviews) and closed quickly.

#83re: [title of show] at the Lyceum
Posted: 4/4/08 at 10:20amI don't see how this will last either. I enjoyed it at the Vineyard but there's too many inside jokes that will go over the heads of most tourists and once or twice a year theatergoers. good thing their capitalization is so small.

Posted: 4/4/08 at 11:14amCurious ... for all of you who are proclaming "this made my day" and are ecstatic over its move to Broadway ... do any of you have any intention of supporting its transfer by purchasing full price tickets, or is this going to be the same old chatter about "is there rush", "is there lottery", "where can I find discount codes"? etc etc etc.

I think people may be underestimating the producing smarts and prowess of Kevin McCollum and Jeffrey Seller, who have an OUTSTANDING record with very few exceptions. They know how to market each show in its own unique way to find its audience. Plenty of people doubted the staying power/ universality/ appeal of Avenue Q, In The Heights, Rent, and Drowsy Chaperone, and look how they've managed those shows' costs and found the audiences to turn great original art into great show business successes.

Well, you have to admit: it shouldn't be TOO hard to recoup! With only 4 chairs and a piano!
And while I am in agreement that it may have difficulty finding a b'way audience, I am excited to see it and cannot wait for August! I'm sure they are hoping that their episodes have helped reached many that want to come and support it.
I was begining to think their announcement about going to B'way was just a hoax.....HOORAY!

"I think people may be underestimating the producing smarts and prowess of Kevin McCollum and Jeffrey Seller, who have an OUTSTANDING record with very few exceptions."
You took the words right out of my mouth.
I thik that Mr McCollum may, in fact, be my own personal hero. I recently read this quote by Charles Strouse...
" I've always had trouble. But everybody does. Leonard Bernstein had trouble. I used to play auditions for West Side Story, so I know how much trouble there was to get that on.
Bye Bye Birdie, was shopped around about five and a hlaf years, and nobody would take any interest in that. We played it for anybody. We'd pick people of the street corner: "Come see our new show."
It's only different today in the fact that there are no people like Cy Feuer around, who will say ' I don't care what. I think you guys are great, and I'm passionate about this idea. I'll get the eight million dollars. I'll do it." There's nobody around like that."
Seeing the recent efforts of many indivudal producers such as Kevin McCollum and Jeffrey Seller, makes me believe that maybe there are people like that still around. And they're making their way to the front line and risking it all...it's awesome and inspiring.
cramazing to be exact.

If I had to choose between 1) a new computer and 2) getting the once- in- a- lifetime experience of traveling to New York, and seeing my favorite show, on Broadway, that I believed in with all my heart... gee, what would I pick?
I love [tos] fans!
"We could ask significant questions
We could get important points across..."
"AND I'M NOT GIVING UP ON YOU GUYS UNTIL ALL OF US HAVE LEARNED TO KNIT ON THE BUS AND TRUCK! ON THE BUS AND TRUUUUUUCK!"
Yay [tos] fans for believing and not giving up!

I know this is wishful thinking but...
"What if this show won a Tony?
What if this show won a Tony Award?"
I am so excited!
#98re: [title of show] at the Lyceum
Posted: 4/4/08 at 5:49pmafaye I was thinking the exact same thing this very second! How incredible would it be if somehow it did win a tony. I dont think words could describe how happy i would be.

If that happened, maybe we'd hear a full version of the Tony Awards song!
One can dream.
