#0weird age question
Posted: 1/22/05 at 9:42pmOk. So my mother finally saw the POTO movie today after I have seen it 5 times (I'm a little obsessed but I don't think it's the best movie so don't get on me). So anyway, we were talking about the whole Emmy being 16/17 when it was filmed and Patrick and Gerard being 30/34. Obviously, it is legal someway even though in real life it is illegal. Does anyone know the actual law/what is allowed? Because would a 8 or 12 or something year old kid be allowed to kiss someone over 18 also? I mean, I know Emmy was close to that age but is there a bottom age limit for that? Or is there just a law that says for acting/films it is ok? Can you do that onstage too? Any help would be appreciated!

Posted: 1/22/05 at 9:45pmI didn't think kissing was illegal, I thought it only applied to sex.

Kissing in a movie, in 99% of the situations, would have absolutely nothing to do with the age/statutory rape laws. I seem to remember there being some debate about 'American Beauty' because Thora Birch did a topless scene and I don't *think* she was eighteen when it was shot.
The relationship in 'Phantom' would be meaningless in this regard. They don't do anything beyond a peck on the lips.

Thora Birch was 17, so her parents had to sign some papers AND be present on the day of filimg that scene in order to make it legal.
Talk about AWKWARD.

Posted: 1/22/05 at 10:12pmRight. I understand that. But my question, although brought up by Phantom, was not solely about Phantom. I guess it was just kinda about kissing but the rest is interesting and something I would like to know too.

Posted: 1/22/05 at 10:16pmI think those laws only apply to sex, so as long as the actors aren't actually having sex, then it's not a legal issue.

not sure where it was filmed but age of consent IS 16 in a good number of places.

but they mightve been in a state with lower age of consent to begin with... anyone know?

Posted: 1/23/05 at 3:14pmWell in Interview With a Vampire, Kristen Dunst kissed Brad Pitt and she was 12 or 13 and he was well into his 20s. So I doubt age is a big deal when it comes to kissing for movies, I think thats only with sex scenes.
