I saw "Dance Of The Vampires", 9 times and "Taboo" twice. I loved them both! And I don't consider them to be "flops"!! More like murder victims.
I didn't know if we were officially counting Taboo, I saw that 8 times.
Oh and I saw By Jeeves 3 times.
One of the most entertaining flops I saw, and loved, was Fascinating Ryhthm. I also rather enjoyed The Rink and Leader Of The Pack, which were both, indeed, flops.

I was in Tom Sawyer elsewhere, and, while I didn't actually see it on Broadway, thought the show had some decent music but was very random at times. The way I see it, the show would have been better if the cast (especially the "kids") were the right age. Everything sounds too old on the CD. However, I am aware that the show flopped. I know the guy who was Tom's understudy, and he never got to play the role. Such a disappointment.
Anyway, back to the topic, I saw Jane Eyre, don't know if that technically qualifies but it certainly didn't go well. Surprisingly, I actually like the music and listen to the CD constantly.
OMG! I saw "Leader of the Pack". Thanks for the memory!
I really liked "Marlene". Sian Philips was divine, but I think the play was a flop.
Oh I saw Jane Eyre too, I love the CD to that show, except for the song "Forgiveness" which goes right through me.
Namo, you saw "Carrie"?! May I fall to my knees in adulation?? Seriously, though, I've had an odd fascination with "Carrie" since I read Ken Mandelbaum's book. I tracked down a site last year and downloaded most of the songs (and the site has since disappeared; if someone out there is the owner of said site and/or has ALL the songs, I will give you my firstborn!!). Was it truly as bad as the recordings suggest? Did Billy really dance around shirtless and blood-smeared in "Out For Blood"? Was the destruction of the gym really nothing more than droppping a sheet of plastic on the stage? Please share!!

Forgiveness, while lots of people's favorite, is very blah in my opinion.

I saw "Mail," a flop from the late 80's notable mostly today for being Brian Stokes Mitchell's Broadway debut. A decent enough show, but not great.
I also saw "A Class Act" and "Wild Party" -- both had great scores, but had book, staging and/or casting issues.
Was "Lorelei"(Carol Channing) a hit or flop?
"Rock & Roll: the First 5,000 Years." It was my very first Broadway show...went as part of a class trip in 11th grade. It was on Broadway for 2 weeks.

Rose, all that you say is true, but there was so much more. The plastic sheet between the kids at the prom and the audience was actually kind of cool because they shot orange light up the plastic and the kids were banging on it as the gym caught fire. It was kind of harrowing, actually.
Everything else you have heard is true too. The scenes between Carrie and her mother were incredible while the scenes with the classmates were not credible.
Betty Buckley was fantastic, Linzi Hately was damned good.
The song the kids did at the drive in with fronts of cars facing the audience was when I turned to my then-homosexual-lover (I am gay by the way) and said, "Uh-oh, this doesn't look as good as the Carrie/Mother scenes."
And I was oh, so right.

My favorite "so-bad-they're-good" recent flops are "Prymate" and "Dance of the Vampires." But, I have to say, the choreographed (by Susan Stroman) gang rape sequence in "Thou Shalt Not" was a jaw-dropper. Poor Kate Levering, from "42nd Street" to this!
Thou Shalt Not did have a few good moments (Tug Boat, Thou Shalt Not Ballet, any of the parts once NLB's character was dead and watching them) but over all it was a leap short of good. In all honesty, I went because I'd heard about Norbert Leo Butz's performance, didn't know who he was at the time, went, and found him to be the one stand out part of the show, although Debra Monk wasn't too bad either, I thought Bierko and Levering were forgettable as was much of the score.

"Lorelei" ran the better part of a year (on Carol Channing's name), but I seem to recall that it was a flop.
Thanks Miss Channing. I seem to remember seeing a scene from "Lorelei" on The Ed Sullivan Show.
I saw Civil War too which I hated. Was it a flop? It did not run very long.

Civil War only ran two months and lost its entire investment ($8 million? $10 million). A big flop.

Amour...a touch whimsical and a lot boring
Urban Cowboy...bad bad bad....except for the boy with the gorgeous body.
Dance of the Vampires...extravegant kitch...awful...love Mandy Gonzalez and the song For Sarah.
Taboo...you've all seen it.
What was the premise of Thou Shalt Not?
I saw the shortlived revival of Jesus Christ Superstar, at the Ford Center....if u've seen the new vhs/dvd of it, u didnt need to see the show. NOTHING changed.
The only redemption was Tony Vincent as Judas. He was amazing in the role and amazingly gorgeous -- not bad for someone who took over the role a week b4 previews.
I saw a regional production of The Rink...can see why it flopped. And yes, I was in a college production of possibly the most useless musical ever: Working. I dont know if it flopped, but I wouldnt be surprised if it did.

"Working" definitely flopped -- some good numbers in the score, though. The all-star version filmed for PBS is quite entertaining (Rita Moreno as the waitress, Patti Labelle as the cleaning woman, James Taylor as the truck driver)
TSN is based on "Therese Raquin"
The basic plot is, New Orleans 1946-47, where Therese is working for her mother, and she is married to her cousin Camille. She meets Laurent, and the two of them have an affair and realize they want to be together and she doesn't want to be with her silky cousin Camille anymore because that life is horrible. They basically kill Camille to get him out of the way, making it look like an accident (the song "tug boat") and then the two of them get together. However, Camille comes back and haunts them through the rest of the show so that their lives are miserable, and I'm a little foggy on the details as to how it ends because it was so long ago, but I pretty much think it ends with Camille being thrilled to have gotten revenge on them.
Camille was Norbert Leo Butz
Laurent was Craig Bierko
Therese was Kate Levering
Hmmm sounds interesting at least. Thanks.
