I agree with the choice of SJP. I've been listening to her sing Shy on the Broadway Divas CD for the past week or so and she just has such an infectiously adorable tone to her. "Alright, I was a little anxious!"

I'm going to have to go with Carol Burnett. I enjoy all three lovely ladies in the part, but I just love Carol Burnett's performance on the cast recording and in the '72 movie.

Years ago in Cincinnati, I saw a wonderfully talented young woman of about 32 or so play Winnifred. She weighed about 275 pounds, was short, and had a face like a pixie. She was wonderful. It was the talented Marcia Lewis, who later played Mama Morton in Chicago as well as many other roles. Either she lost a helluva lot of weight after doing Once Upon a Mattress, or she had the best fat suit ever made. She was huge at the time, but perfect in the role.

Smaxie I was thinking the same thing. Where's the love for Jane Connell?

I'd say I enjoy Carol Burnett the most, and Jane Connell at a close second.

Personally, I enjnoyed Sarah Jessica Parker's performance, just not as much as Carol Burnetts.

I saw Jane Connell on the West End. Much as I like her work in other shows, she was almost grotesque in this one.

Anyone see Imogene Coca or Dody Goodman in the national companies?

I wish I had.

Honestly, I love SJP, but that production stank.

I love T.U. as well, but that was a nightmare.

I think Dody Goodman was most likely amazing, but I didn't see it.

To answer the question? Carol. I've only seen her (on TV) and SJP (on stage). Wish I had others to compare it to.

I would love to see Sutton Foster do it. I think she could nail it.

No one can close to Carol Burnett. Saw her in the original production off Broadway.

I did see the wonderful Emogene Coca in a touring production and she was excellent. She is my second choice.

That would be such a great revival! Both actresses would fit well in those roles!!! Bring that to Broadway instead of Spiderman
