My dad had the great idea of Martin Short and Christopher Walken. That would be insane. But who would replace Sherie?
Short is far too old and I doubt you will ever see Walken go back into theatre, although I would die to see that. Personally I don't think they need big "names" to keep this alive, however I do fear it may suffer some of the "Producers Disease" as John and Norbert are just so perfect.
Personally I wouldn't mind seeing Greg Jabara getting the rub and put in John's role. I also could see Jonathan Pryce(sp?) take the role or even Kelsey Grammer. Tom Hewitt maybe? Tim Curry?
As far as Freddy, I'd love to see Hunter Foster get a crack at it. I think Roger Bart could pull it off as well. Even though I haven't seen him in anything, what about the kid who played Pippin in that benefit? He's in the Domino's commercial...Michael...( Blanking on his last name). Or I do know this kid named Carl who would OWN in that roll.......
Most likely their respective standbys/understudies.
I dunno....I don't really see that happening. I think they may try to attract big box office for a bit longer, although the show is strong regardless.....

Sally Struthers is replacing Norbert
Rita Moreno is replacing John
I heard that they are talking to Carol Channing as well. She'll come in after she completes her upcoming engagement as Elphaba on the Fire Island stop of the Wicked tour.
Well, then. There you are.
I think Michael Arden is too young to play Freddy, but I could totally see Kelsey Grammer take over for John
Harvey is going to take over all of the roles - it will become a one man show.
Not that I think he would be good on stage at all...
but when I saw Norbert, all I could think about was Jack Black in the role of Freddy, he would fit the part, but I'm not sure if he has enough talent to fill the role.
ARDEN! that's it! and yes I agree he might be too young for Freddy.

Here's a combo never thought of before:
Nathan Lane & Matthew Broderick.
Or
Idina & Cheno
It's all about stretching.
Kelsey Grammer as Lawrence is inspired casting
Don't know about Norbert's role, though
Jbara would also make a fabulous Lawrence.
I think (a la Wicked), they won't bring in big names for the bigger parts but instead cast celebrities in the smaller roles as Lawrence and Freddy are tough roles to play and the supporting roles seem to be much easier to pull off.
I think Greg Jbara would be great in John's role...and Norbert should stay in the role for awhile. I could also see Tom Hewitt in John's role. And Christine Ebersole in Joanna's role. Sherie--dunno.
Just an idea, but wouldn't it be great if Michelle Federer took over Sherie's role and played opposite her real life boyfriend? I think she'd be pretty good as well...
Once again, don't lash out at me for saying this but what about Idina playing Christine?
What about Kerry Butler for Christine Colgate?
I'm all for Greg Jbara taking over Lithgow's part as Lawrence. Either him or Kelsey Grammer would be great. As for Norbert, Hunter Foster seems like a good choice, or as someone suggested somwhere else, Wayne Brady.
LOVE the Michele Federer idea..the Wayne Brady, not so much. And I can't see Kelsey giving up his cushy Cali life to do eight shows a week, but he certainly has the comedic skills.
i would love to see greg as Lawrence but only for one time, cause he created the role of Andre and is sooooo good at it. I don't know.
Does anyone think Walter Bobbie could replace John.... not that it would be easy to get him....
Peter Gallagher for Lawrence?....maybe?
Ugh, Wayne Brady? No thank you. Had this musical come out during the In Living Color days, David Allen Grier could have fit pretty well, he's a little too old now.
As for Kelsey, he was already considering Producers and did that horrible production of Macbeth. I think he might wanna try to be in something succesful on Broadway.
for one thing Carl, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is very successful. That is not a good reason for Kelsey not to do this show.
And Peter Gallagher? Sorry, he's not that good of an actor.
I've got to agree with Dre on this. I'd give my right arm to see Greg playing Laurence but I don't want him giving up the part of Andre! (I recall having similar feelings about Brad Oscar moving from Franz to Max). Kelsey and Hunter sound great to me.
