It stopped being a profitable business, that's all.

re: why did les mis close??

I wish they had left it till it passed Cats. Oh well, the ALW would have kept Phantom going until it passed Miz.

Because it was tired of being alone, waiting in the shadows. And it was the end of the day.

Because the actors were bored playing it. No kidding. At one point, they had to close the show down and everyone had to reaudition for their roles.

That was six years before the show actually closed, though. And it wasn't "everyone." They weren't all even allowed to reaudition.

re: why did les mis close??

because from what i learned in my theatre management class today...... broadway is a for profit corporation and in order for a show to continue running it has to be pulling in a ceartain amount of money to make a profit to pay the investors back and such. so apparently Les Miz wasn't and thats that.

They should have closed it then. The last time I saw it, Eponine screamed her way through "On My Own". It was so bad, the audience down at Rent could hear her. They thought it was a reprise verse of "Out Tonight".

Off topic--

Why do some of you type God as G-d? Everytime I see that I say 'g' 'd'.

Les Miz had LONG since paid back its investment. It closed becuase of costs, true enough. It had it's day. I think the tour is about to close soon as well.

Jewish people do it. "A way of avoiding writing a name of G-d, to avoid the risk of the sin of erasing or defacing the Name."

Because it's quality was gone! They cut it, diced it and trimmed it and had a company that cared nothing for the material. It turned into a piece of Les Crap!

Really? They closed MIZ because it had poor business and wasn't making the money it used to make.

Even if MIZ had run past CATS, yes ALW would have kept running PHANTOM to pass MIZ, but the difference is that PHANTOM is STILL making a bundle of money...Miz wasn't. ALW would not have run it just to pass MIZ but he would have run it to keep making money.

re: why did les mis close??

Ok, I'm a Christian and choose not to take the Lord's name in vain, but typing 'G-d' is absolutely no different than typing 'God'...it's the fact that you are using his name in a bad way or the way you would use a curse word that's the problem (which you really weren't doing in the first place; speaking about God the divine creator isn't taking His name in vain...it's just speaking about Him)

not to stomp on toes...just my opinion!

re: why did les mis close??

When I was checking capacity of the show, I remember seeing it in the high 40 percent range...not to good plus their were a lot of show discounts.
