i have been posting on this board for just over a month.... i've been watching for much longer. every time i read a "wicked" thread... and i mean EVERY time, there seems to be an outpouring of negativity by the very people who should be nurturing our new broadway fans. i saw "wicked" once. i was entertained... it wasn't the best show i've ever seen, nor the worst, but then again i've been a musical theatre buff since elementary school.. that gives me a 25 year headstart on musical theatre knowledge.
i don't want to stir up a nest of more "wicked" bashing, i simply want to state a point. when i was eight i loved "annie"... thought it had to be the greatest show ever created. it spoke to my little girl heart in a way that no other show could... i related. when i was thirteen i thought that "grease" was possibly the finest piece of theatre to grace the stage... sandy was just like me... misunderstood and awkward... i related. at fifteen i loved "little shop".. the humor was so off-beat and quirky. seventeen.."chorus line".. and on and on. nobody ever critisized my passion. no one belittled my judgement. the only heat i ever got was from peers who thought that musical theatre was stupid. but the people i respected most.. fellow actors and theatre lovers never put down my choices. i am now 32 and have been a working actor for 13 years. the tastes of my youth are much different than my tastes now.
what i have seen on this board is in my opinion quite sad. so these young aspiring actors and actresses like "wicked".. GOOD FOR THEM! someday they will see another show that will spark another level of passion, but for now it is "wicked".
for all of you aspiring theatre junkies.. for all of you new theatre lovers out there, i'm so glad that you have a love for something that goes against the grain of popular culture. i hope you will cultivate your knowledge and be open to any new theatre experiences.. whatever you do, don't listen to a handful of over zealous posters on this board who will try to degrade your opinion because it does not agree with theirs. you will learn in your journey that we theatre folk can be harsh and opinionated to the point of exasperation. it is only because we have a bit more time and experience under our belts that we see things in a different way. the last thing i'd ever want to see is for broadway to become a one-sided offering that caters only to the devoted. boadway is there for everyone to enjoy.. and different things will appeal to different people.
and for those of you who opened this thread only because of a bloodthirsty need to voice your obvious dislike for the umpteenth time... i would wonder, is it only so you can boost your post status for the ever coveted "broadway legend" title?
love and respect to all of you out there that truly do enjoy the rich tapestry and the multitude of styles that makes up broadway.

yeah i saw it i thought it was pretty entertaining. nothing more nothing less. if it causes people to be interested in theatre, then it's a good thing. there are some, well, unhealthy obbsessions some people seem to have with it, in a *nsync kinda way, but as long as it keeps them interested... i think everyone just needs some vicadin.
We're so glad you love Wicked. We're glad you're excited about it....
But you don't have post 200 THREADS about it.
What did Cheno eat for lunch? Is Idina a Virgo? I got the exclusive sheet music..blah..blah..blah.
You wonder why people are sick of you?
How can we love you if you won't go away?

You read good.
You spell crap.
Honey, when a thread has something of VALUE and SUBSTANCE I'm all for it.
But if you and your Girl Scout troup want to clog up this board with your crap, you bet I'll let you know.
Go sell some cookies.

Third person narratives, while creative, are not the most ideal way to reply to messages on a message board.
Oh Musetta, how I love thee....
As for the original posting, I thank you (Fae) for it. I believe it needed to be said...as it has been, many times before.
Overall though, I believe if you want your post to be more respected and appreciated, you may need to write with periods (not ellipses), as well as capitalization and proper spelling. Sure, we all mess up here and there, and my posts aren't always the most coherent. However, it would be wise to take note of the advice.
Welcome to the board!
Just promise me you'll spend some of your allowance seeing other things TOO! Go to Wicked, love it, buy the OBCR and love that too, but spread the love and broaden your horizons. The Wicked bashers are just lashing out because it gets tiring to see so many new threads that seem to say the same thing. That says, if the thread is identified clearly as a Wicked thread (note to all posters) then I agree that Wicked Haters or People Who Are Tired About Talking About Wicked (PWATATAW) should steer clear and let you guys have your fun. I just hope you guys are all going to see other stuff too and have other interests, and I'm sure you and that you do, so now I can rest easy. Ah, I feel better.
We need a better acronym than THAT, BT! How about we call ourselves the We're Over Wicked or WOW people?

Have you noticed that Wicked is the only musical that is bashed! But let me tell you why I like Wicked: I have to admit I'm new to theatre and Wicked was the reason I got into it. So Wicked will always be my favorite. It is good but I do agree that we don't need to know what every little thing about every person. I would also suggest if you like Wicked and no others shows you might should try a Wicked message board.
Have you noticed that Wicked is the only musical that is bashed!
That is categorically untrue. Plenty of other musicals come in for their fair share of bashing on this board and it's comments like the above that "most" people find so very annoying.
Let me start by saying that I'm not a fan of Wicked but it does appeal to a certain audience and anything that gets the young people to live theater and gets them hooked, then gives the theatrical community a chance to appeal to their more mature passions as the person ages.
As for those who are bashing the Wicked kids on this board, my answer is that you may wish to do what I do...if a thread doesn't interest you, don't open it. You don't have to feel obligated to post on every thread on the board. Just scroll right past.
There are bound to be shows that YOU like (as a Wicked basher) that others don't and you probably don't appreciate others trashing those shows...so give some reciprocal respect.
Wicked will always be your favorite? you're not giving yourself much of a chance there, are you? i can assume, and only hope, that in your lifetime, you will have the opportunity to see many many other shows... Wicked may hold a close and dear place in your heart, but chances are, you'll find another show down the road, that will become your favorite...
Wicked is hardly the only show bashed... there have been plnety of Caroline bashings and Sondheim bashings and Dracula bashings and Avenue Q bashings...
SamIAm, i agree with that, but it is said all the time and not practiced. it's really sad. being a wicked fan myself, i feel like i'm put in that group and held partially responsible too. i try not to make new posts because i know a lot of people don't like it, but i'm willing to answer questions if i can help.
i guess all i can say to help keep some peace is that if you have a wicked question, check past threads for it. if its not there, pm 1 of us wicked fans and we'll do our best to help out. but since its a broadway message board, i dont think it has to be necessary to go that far.

OK, I stand corrected about it being the only musical bashed, but I do think it is the one that is mostly bashed. And maybe I used the wrong wording about it being my favorite. Yes it will have a special place in my heart but that doesn't mean that I won't ever have another favorite. And I also don't think that only kids like Wicked, I'm a teenager, not a kid. But I suppose you're counting teens as "kids."
