Posted: 7/16/11 at 2:06pmHeathers is one of my favorite movies, however having seen the Joe's Pub concert I have to say that the prospective musical's tone just seems so wrong and the music is kinda dumb, except for a smart lyric or two. Laurence O Keefe is just not a good choice for the project in IMO. It's way to bubble gum for something so dark and stinging.

"Why don't we do a musical based on the atrocities of the banishment of Native Americans? We did. Last season. "Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson." You must have missed it."
Well, it would have been easy to miss since it lasted all of 15 weeks. I definitely missed it recouping. Cause it didn't.
Not saying it was a bad musical, in fact, it was very good. And it still didn't catch on. Which further undermines your point.

I must say that LYSISTRATA JONES strikes me as too much an oddball. There's arguably a great musical in LYSISTRATA (the original play), but somehow this saga of basketball just doesnt seem to be it.
Anyone ever read Ralf Konig's take on the play? Hysterical, and one that could easily make the leap to the stage, musical or otherwise.
