42nd street will be back again. it's too much of an alltime favorite to go away for good.

Laugh Whore was initially slated to be a limited engagement. Please note that it's not closing for lack of ticket sales, rather, that was it's original closing date.

42nd street is in part because they're using discount tickets to fill their audience, before it's closing notice (which has been for while) it wasn't filling such a large theater. Another show is set to move in shortly after closing.

this is what's called "separating the wheat from the chaff". Broadway in particular has been needing to streamline for awhile now, and this does a great job of it. now we just cross our fingers and hope that the new stuff coming in will be an improvement.

streamline? it's hardly streamlining when some of the best things playing are closing. Streamlining would be if all the overrated trash left broadway, leaving it to the new stuff, and old goodies.

stuff like:

THE PRODUCERS
THE GOOD BODY
THE LION KING
MOVIN' OUT
THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA
MAMMA MIA!
BOMBAY DREAMS
DRACULA

Now that would be streamlining.

yes but good shows are always going to close, that's a given. to actually expect a Broadway where only the good things are able to run a long time and all the crap closes quickly is naive and unrealistic. I agree that some shows are closing that really deserved to run longer, but at least they're unloading some baggage that's been hanging on for too long now. i'm trying to be optimistic, you can dwell on the trash still playing all you want.

Probably 5 of the 6 top grossing musicals right now. Yeah, getting rid of those would be great for Broadway.

Movin' Out should never have been o long running Broadway show. It is a ballet. Do limited engagement and then MOVE it OUT!
And Phantom? Is Andrew paying money to keep this one open too? The same thing he did to Cats so that it could become the longest running B'way musical?
While we're at it, why don't we say goodbye to Mamma Mia, as well as Disney and the Beast. Don't even open Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and keep Jerry Springer in London.
Revive Urinetown and Ragtime, as well as Des's The Who's Tommy. If all this were to happen, Broadway would be a much better place.

munkustrap - The Good Body, Dracula and Bombay Dreams are closing, so they need not be included in your destructive wish list. If the other shows are so awful, then they would have closed already. They remain open because they are successful.

Movin' Out is a ballet and it's a hit (I certainly loved it). Why should it have a limited run if people want to see it and it is doing well? That makes no sense. Chitty and Jerry Springer have every right to open as anything else and the ticket sales will determine if they are fit to stay on Broadway or not.

It's funny, but if everyone had a show closed they didn't like, then Broadway would cease to exist. Way to be supportive, guys! Just because you don't like a show, doesn't mean it is crap. Obviously, there is something appealing about them that attracts the public. That's not crap, it's rather smart, actually.

I know they're closing, and I wasn't saying the rest should all close NOW. I guess maybe I wasn't clear enough, or you misunderstood what I was saying. What I'm basically saying is that it's sad that there's so many "bad" shows on Broadway right now, and it's sad that they're successful. Success doesn't always mean a show is good. Look what happened to amazing shows like CAROLINE, TABOO, and SIXTEEN WOUNDED. Then look at drivel like THE PRODUCERS and MAMMA MIA. It's sad that the best of the best isn't around long enough to inspire people.

What is amazing is that Bklyn remains open.
Thanks to Ramona Keller and her stellar voice.
I am very sad about 42ND STREET, one of my favorite musicals of all time. It has had a very good and long run. But it will be missed.
The Producers is hardly drivel. It is a very entertaining and clever show. In fact, I should see it again. I have not seen it in years.
