What are some of your all-time favorite harmonies from shows? I actually have two fairly new ones:
The I Love You Song from Spelling Bee. When the three of them are singing together, it gives me chills. The harmony is just brilliant. And the three actors are also brilliant in it.
My other new favorite is in "At the Ballet" from Chorus Line. When they sing "up a steep and very narrow stairway to the voice like a metronome." The second time when they are singing the harmony (duh) not the unison. It sounds amazing.

Posted: 2/25/06 at 11:36pmI love the ending of "Our Prayer" from the Color Purple. Just how it ends is great (if only they would end it a cappella, then it would be more chilly) I love it!

I loved the harmonies on many of the songs in The Color Purple in the theater. While still sounding good in the CD, they were intensified in the theater. I got many chills that night.
One of my favorites is from Avenue Q, in "I Wish I Could Go Back to College"... the part about the computer lab.

Posted: 2/26/06 at 12:08amThe whole score of City Of Angels has INCREDIBLE harmonies. I can't express how amazing they are. (AMAZING Act 1 Finale too, where Stine and Stone have some subtle but great harmonies.)

"Prima Donna" from PHANTOM has great overlapping melodies, and all of the vocal arrangements from TOMMY are brilliant.
Also loved the vocal arrangements in LENNON, RENT, Smokey Joe's, ASSASSINS, and what gets me probably the most are the vocal arrangements to A NEW BRAIN. I just love those.

A New Brain- "Heart and Music"
Parade- "This Is Not Over Yet"
The harmonies are so good they give me goosebumps when I listen to them.

Posted: 2/26/06 at 12:33amI was just thinking about this. Can there be too many harmonies?
re: your favorite harmonies#19
Posted: 2/26/06 at 12:59amAny harmonies Jason Robert Brown has ever written, especailly for Songs for a New World.
re: your favorite harmonies#20
Posted: 2/26/06 at 12:59amYeah...thats a good question. The reason I like harmonies so much is because they are rare and sometimes unexpected. So maybe if there were too many it wouldn't be as good. But then again Finn's and JRB's harmonies are GREAT! Tough question.
