SO excited!!! I've been hearing rumors for awhile but I'm glad that they feel it's moving forward enough for a press release. And I also like the idea of John as Zanna.
PS- Anyone who was at Queer Songbook heard one of the new songs perfomed by the wonderful Robb Sapp. It sounds great.
Wow. Very freudian.
As for the show.
One second...
(AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!)
So ****ing excited!
As for southerners coming to see it, this southerner wants to!

broadwayguy2 can hope that Lil Kush (the Good Kush)will be cast and will eb able to show off his standout dancing ability.
Awwww... I'm not sure I'm ready to accept John Tartaglia without Princeton and Rod... what are his hands gonna be doing??? Oh, wait... I think I just answered that with a mental image... give me a moment... mmmmmm.....

Haha.
I'm excited...Zanna Don't! is one of my all time FAVORITE shows! I just hope that by "revised" they don't mean rewritten :- Any idea on what they changed? And John as Zanna? I donno...he doesn't seem...Jai-enough for the role. Do you think he can sing it? I know he's got an awesome voice, but some of Zanna's parts are out of this world...
Anyways, verrrrrry excited! Can't wait to hear more :)
Hi Broadwayguy2 !

This is WONDERFUL news!
I love this show and am so glad it is coming to Broadway.
Anyone know why they are changing the name to just "Zanna!"?

I hope Jai is, for some reason, forced to pass on the lead role... you know, the whole Rent movie thing lol

dididda, you just completely made my night!!!!!!!!
glad i could make someone's night!
And yet, Rent and Avenue Q did just fine, in fact, amazingly moving to Broadway.
I think it is great news. Anika freakin' kicks butt.
I was just listening to the cd again, and i was thinking that since it's going to have a new director, it could be a hairspray-style show (sorry if this would be way off, because ive never seen the show live). It would be cool if they had Jerry Mitchell do the choreography.

I actually knew this about a year ago beacuse my friend's college wanted to do the show but they couldn't get the rights because they said it's going to Bway, but having not heard anything about it I assumed it didn't pan out.

jrb_actor, it's a little silly to compare Zanna's possible move to that of Avenue Q or Rent. Both of those were HUGE off-Broadway hits, not so Zanna. Both got rave reviews, unlike Zanna. Both runs were extended several times off-Broadway, Zanna closed early. Both were moved almost immediately after closing off-Broadway, unlike Zanna. I'm not saying that Zanna won't be successful, I'm just skeptical. And there's no way it's the same situation as either Avenue Q or Rent.
This news makes me ever so happy!
I was speaking artistically.
And, I don't recall Zanna being such a flop. It was def sold out when I went towards the end of its run, and the theory at that time was indeed that a move to Broadway would be a better fit, ticket wise. Its popularity soared with its CD release and Jai's becoming a TV star. I think the show will do quite well--it is a great show. Plus, they have obviously made rewrites that hopefully make it even better. Let's give it a chance.
Why AGAIN are we damning something before it has had a chance to prove itself?

Because it's fun?

Not to pounce here, jrb, but how is that meant artistically in the context of the discussion?
In any case, I'm not damning the show at all. I enjoyed the show. I just think that it's a better off-Broadway-ish show. I'm not sure I'd call it a flop but it definitely was losing lots of $$. That's why it closed early. It will be interesting to see when/if it actually does make it to Broadway. If you look at the list of shows currently planning to open in 2005, and waiting for available theatres, it might not happen next year at all. I have to say that I cannot see John Tartaglia in that role. At all.
