THE QUEEN OF VERSAILLES Previews

Don't they say it's unfinished? Maybe that was added this week when I saw it but I'm pretty sure Jonquel and Jackie have a few lines at the beginning of the last scene about only the grand staircase being done with work on the rest of the house still being done (hence the construction worker who turns out the lights later in the scene).

If I were Jackie Si

He worked with Lear de Bessonet and Ellenore Scott during pre-production but was not in the room with the cast during rehearsals.

Don’t Call It Broadway If You’re Paying Tour Wages

Why does the contract suck? Is it just the difference in minimum salary (about $50 per week, according to the post Kad linked)?

THE QUEEN OF VERSAILLES with Kristin Chenowith & F. Murray Abraham to open at St. James in November

It seems she should have gone the Nicole route - have your team write a carefully-worded message that you post on social media and then avoid the press unless in a group situation like the Hollywood Reporter roundtable.

But taking the time to do an on camera interview and then having almost nothing to say ...? I would love to know if this is what her team decided she should do or if she went rogue. She could have apologized, she could have said she believes anyone who ac

Are they really doing 4 weeks of rehearsal? I thought the current cast got 2 weeks.

ALMOST FAMOUS On Broadway - P/reviews Thread

Seussical also was heavily revised and has been incredibly successful post-Broadway.

Of course it doesn't hurt that the Addams Family and Seuss brands are much stronger and appeal to a wider age range than the Almost Famous brand.

Second Stage Season Will Include MARJORIE PRIME and BECKY SHAW on Broadway

June Squibb will be 96 when this starts previews. That's gotta make her the oldest person ever to appear on Broadway, right?

Given that she's been away from home and hasn't taken any time off since PIRATES started rehearsals, I would be very surprised if Jinkx extended.

Midnight In The Garden of Good and Evil - Broadway?
 Jul 23 2025, 08:21:19 PM

I saw this in Chicago. I enjoyed it overall though it could definitely use some cutting and streamlining - there are SO many side characters, some get a quick few lines, some get entire songs. Not all those who get songs are able to justify their inclusion.

That said, I thought elevating the role of Lady Chablis provided an interesting contrast with Jim Williams - two queer people navigating 80s Savannah in very different ways (and, of course, with very different outcomes). A

Not that being completely true to real life has ever mattered with Gypsy, but everyone in the show is relatively young compared to the actors who typically play them ...

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA musical headed to the UK and West End in 2024
 Jul 6 2025, 11:32:33 AM

Shaina was unavailable for re-writes in the lead up to the London production due to Suffs but I believe she was the person who recommended Mark Sonnenblick as they've worked together before. She attended the opening in London so even if she's not actively involved in future productions it's not like she's disowned it.

2024-2025 Tony Awards thread (Eligibility Rulings, etc)
 Apr 12 2025, 10:12:33 AM

I saw Purpose in previews and everyone is billed below the title in my Playbill. I also saw the first preview of Maybe Happy Ending and Helen Shen is above the title. This must be a new trend of producers tweaking the billing only for Playbills that will be distributed on opening night. Which seems silly given that they can petition for a category change and, even if they don't, the administration committee can do whatever they want.

STRANGER THINGS: THE FIRST SHADOW Previews

I assume they didn't want to pay overtime to stagehands which I believe starts at 3 hours after the advertised start time (7:30pm in this case). Last night's performance ended a little before 10:30pm.

I was there! It was so poorly handled. I arrived a little after 7 from the 45th Street side - walk into the hotel and the escalators on that side are both going down. I walk over to the otherside where both escalators are going up, but are blocked by an usher. She tells me there's a line to get in that starts by the box office. I go out to the box office area - empty other than 1 person picking up tickets - and look outside to find a line extending almost all the way down 46th Street. I w

CATS Jellicle Ball - Studio 54?
 Feb 6 2025, 07:51:30 PM

Fake news or not, Studio 54 is the best of the Broadway houses for this production.

First, because Roundabout put a modular seating arrangement in the orchestra which can easily be broken down and replaced with the table seating they used for Cabaret. Cabaret's set design included a thrust stage that was visible from the entire mezzanine - no reason the runway couldn't extend out into the orchestra the same distance.

Second, every show at Studio 54 has to buil

Bernadette Peters & Lea Salonga to Lead OLD FRIENDS On Broadway
 Oct 24 2024, 08:57:49 PM

Of course they can easily change the song assignments, but assuming everything will be the same as London I'd think that Beth Leavel is taking the Clare Burt track (with Ladies Who Lunch as her main solo) and Kate Jennings Grant is taking the Janie Dee track.

Audra McDonald-led GYPSY for 2024-2025 Season!

No extension for JUNO. Cameron Mackintosh's new production of OLIVER! starts performances at the Gielgud on December 14. However, I would bet JUNO will transfer to Broadway shortly after the London run.
