re: Gypsy movie?

Oh God! Please! Let this not be true! I am so SICK of Gypsy. One of the most overdone musicals of this or any lifetime!

re: Did anyone ever see Phylicia Rashad go on as Deena Jones?
 Feb 28 2007, 09:12:19 AM
From what I remember her singing voice was just fine as "Deena". It had a smoky, sexy quality. It sure was a helluva lot better than Linda Leilani Brown's voice. LLB's voice was the most annoying high pitched, nasally shriek. Not at all pleasant on the ears. I believe the only reason she was even given the role was because of her all-too-obvious resemblance to Diana Ross.

Phylicia Rashad did go on for Sheryl Lee Ralph. I saw her in the role. From what I can remember she did a fine job. I had the Playbill but in my subsequent moves it was lost if not I would scan it for you.

She didn't do it for long though. Linda Leilani Brown was brought in from the short lived National Tour to permanently replace Ralph in the Broadway version. That's when Rashad up and quit the show.

"As of right now, Dreamgirls is not a financial nor is it a critical success. In a way, all of the hype surrounding it really worked against it. I loved it, as did many, but because Dreamworks was building it up to be the best thing since sliced bread, numerous critics and audience members left underwhelmed."

on what planet are you two living on? DRE

^^ that's a very weak argument.

so by your standards, reba mcentire a mere country singer shouldn't have tackled the roles of "annie oakley" or "nellie forbush" because she isn't considered an actress?!!!

yeah, okay, sure.

that's very narrow minded of you.

StickToPriest,

I was being sarcastic. I just find it funny how some people on this board are opposed to the idea of some performers (Fantasia and Beyonce, for example) performing on Broadway but when a Broadway performer does television or even film it's okay and a cause for celebration.

Isn't that some sort of double standard? When it all comes down to it they are all performers aren't they?

i think Broadway performers should stay strictly to the stage.
they don't belong on television.

if anyone wants to see what the demise of a Broadway Legend looks like they should view this performance.

re: BEYONCE ON BROADWAY?

she certainly has the talents, voice, looks and presence to light up any B'way stage which is more than i can say for some of the performers that are actually on B'way right now.

re: Carnival at Kennedy
 Feb 22 2007, 01:01:52 PM
I had no idea they were doing this at the Kennedy Center this year.
This is one of my all time favorite scores. I never saw the show (I wasn't even born when it was first produced). I am familiar with the film it's based on ~ "Lili".

I love "Love Makes The World Go 'Round". Such a beautiful melody.

Wish I could take a trip to go see this.

I would never attack someone who has such a beautiful avatar of Miss Donna McKechnie in "Follies" ljay.

But, just to correct you on two points.

1. I'm not dumb
2. I'm not a broad

Thank you Bobby.
At least someone can back up their statements.
Which is more than I can say for the rest of you.
Oh, and by the way, I really could care less if Wicked EVER makes it to the big screen.
I don't care for the show at all.
Need further proof?
Just look at the list of My Favorite Shows in my profile...it doesn't even rate...
