re: What's happening to Musical Theater Writers? (adapters)
 Mar 3 2009, 12:52:53 PM
Depending on the day, I go both ways. I would LOVE to see something not so mainstream (i.e. spiderman, shrek, sleepless) While I understand Broadway needs to bring in money, it seems like these adaptations are taking over. (even though they may be really good lol)

re: Shrek OBCR
 Feb 23 2009, 07:43:36 PM
I think everyone had really low expectations for Shrek, hence why we were all as pleasantly surprised as we were.

Surprise! It doesn't suck anywhere near as much as you thought!
Surprise! You actually chuckled!

Oooh it's a toss up between South Pacific and WSS. I agree ELKE though, it depends what dates you've chosen to go.

re: THE MUSICAL IS BACK- OSCARS PERFORMANCE
 Feb 23 2009, 04:07:36 PM
I thought it was kind of nice to remind everyone that such a thing as musicals exist :) nice effort, not the greatest performance but interesting. I did get quite a kick out of the Mamma Mia/drill team bit though

Aw guys you rock! Thank you so much for your posts, they meant a lot to me.
And in regards to Evan, I can understand how you can have that opinion, be it right or wrong. You're entitled to that, but next time try learning before you speak.

Elphaba, you're awesome! I'm a 42A, in AIT right now in SC at Ft. Jackson. Where'd you do your AIT? The students here are so undisciplined, it's driving me crazy lol.
I got to get to class, I'll update more later. Just wanted to let everyone

re: How Do YOU Make Small Roles Your Own?
 Mar 28 2007, 09:18:11 PM
The best actors come from small roles =]

I did a play where I had only 1 line, consisting of all of 3 words. (wooo! =P ) The rest of the time I was supposed to be asleep. It's all about presence though, you know that whole confidence theory? Where if someone is confidant you notice them more than the person trying to fade into the tapestry? Same thing. During the silence. And when you speak, if you speak, you up that 20 times. I bet you'll be the most memorable of all characters, I know

re: Help for auditions
 Mar 25 2007, 12:36:33 PM
oh yeah forgot about that one! sorry haha
well first rule of thumb, nothing from the musical.
Um maybe you could try something from Grease? Even though those tend to be overdone. Basically anything uptempo from the 50's-60's could work, as they're very similar in type.

re: Help for auditions
 Mar 25 2007, 12:28:52 AM
Well here's a few that I could think of:
Ballad:
Heaven Help My Heart from Chess
With One Look from Sunset Boulevard
So in Love from Kiss Me Kate
Before the Parade Passes By from Hello Dolly
The Girl I mean to Be and Hold on, both from Secret Garden

UpTempo:
The Gentleman is a Dope from Allegro
WallStreet from Dames at Sea
The Life of the Party from Wild Party
